Summer Fellowship Seeing the brothers come together on July 8th to celebrate Bro. Alexander Holmes’ belated 21st at Brewport—on the Grand Lodge of Connecticut’s birthday, no less was a great evening. If there was ever a fitting excuse to gather in a public house like Masons did in the old days, this was it. We had a nice showing for a Tuesday evening, with brothers flowing in and out throughout the evening. It was especially nice to see Bro. Kowalski (who is back from South Dakota)and WB M. Smith (who gave up a night of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu) also made it out! We were joined by brothers from Washington 19, Acacia 85, and several brothers from Corinthian 104, including Bro. Giovanni Aldo Compasso (Gio)—also recently 21 and, like Alex, a third-generation Mason! Beyond the pizza and brew, it was a reminder of how valuable these moments are for getting to know our brothers’ _full_ lives and sharing our stories. Like any good novel, the character development and backstory make the journey real and meaningful. The same is true in the Craft. Around the table, we get to know the man behind the apron—and that’s where genuine Brotherhood thrives and unites us all. Cheers 🍻to our first Grand Master, Pierpont Edwards, and our young Brothers who have come of age. |

Pizza and Brew with the Brothers We’re getting together on Tuesday, July 8th, at 6:00 PM at Brewport in Bridgeport to raise a glass to Bro. Alexander Holmes, whose birthday slipped by a couple of weeks ago. It’s a fitting date—July 8th marks the founding of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut in 1789. What better occasion for Brothers to come together for some informal fellowship? As Mark Twain put it:“ Too much of anything is bad, but too much good whiskey is barely enough.” We figure pizza and a cold brew make a pretty fitting modern substitute. Join us for a relaxed evening of good food, good company, and a toast to our young Brother. It’s informal, so come as you are in informal dress and invite a friend. |

My Brothers, We will soon be conferring the Entered Apprentice Degree upon two of our petitioners: Candidate Stephan Crowe and Candidate Tom Pietro. These men have been brought to our Lodge with care, and we are eager to welcome them into the Craft. The Worshipful Master and the Wardens are coordinating the degree date. At present, we are looking at one of the following Wednesdays at the end of summer: August 27, September 3, or September 10. Please make every effort to keep these dates open until we confirm. We will follow up as soon as we lock in the best date for the candidates, the Lodge, and the Grand Lodge for inspection. As you know, our Worshipful Master is still recovering from a serious illness, but he hopes to be strong enough to preside. Out of respect for him, our candidates, and the Craft, we ask for your cooperation to ensure this degree is carried out with the dignity, solemnity, and precision it deserves. This will be one of the most meaningful ceremonies these candidates will ever participate in, and it is our duty to ensure it reflects the excellent ritual work that Ashlar-Aspetuck is known for. We would especially love to see new faces involved in the work. Several brothers have not yet had the opportunity to participate in a degree, and this is a perfect opportunity. If you’re willing, please call me directly and let me know which part you’re interested in. My phone is always on for a brother. Thank you in advance for your commitment to helping us initiate our future brothers. Fraternally, Bro. Kraig Gray Senior Warden |

*Grand Master’s Day in Wallingford* Just a snapshots from Grand Master’s Day up in Wallingford! A few of the brothers from Ashlar-Aspetuck Lodge No. 142 made the trip to represent the Lodge in the parade. As Worshipful Brother Bob Furce noted, the residents were very happy to see everyone, and it turned out to be quite a long parade. A great way and great day to spread goodwill and show a little Masonic pride! |

Brethren, I spoke with Brother Bill today regarding Worshipful Master Bob’s condition. He remains in Griffin Hospital and continues his fight against sepsis. As you can imagine, the battle is taking its toll — he’s been without solid food for over a week and is understandably exhausted from both the illness and a lack of restful sleep. That said, he is receiving good care and is surrounded by his wife and family, who are tending to him closely. Though this is a difficult time for him, I know he would welcome our prayers and words of encouragement. If any Brother is able to stop by for a brief visit, I believe it would lift his spirits. That said, let us also be mindful not to overwhelm or tire him out. A short visit or even a note of support would mean a great deal as he continues on his road to recovery. |

A Full Day at Ashlar Aspetuck Lodge No. 142
On March 8, Ashlar-Aspetuck Lodge No. 142 in Connecticut welcomed its newest Entered Apprentice, Brother Matthieu (Matt) Regney, in a unique and memorable degree. The degree was held on a Saturday morning in an uncommon departure from the lodge’s usual schedule. This special arrangement was made to accommodate Brother Regney’s commitment to a live performance of Terra Nova later that evening, demonstrating the lodge’s support for its members' diverse talents and obligations.
The day began with a breakfast, where brothers, friends, and potential candidates gathered in fellowship before the degree. This relaxed and welcoming start set the stage for a solemn and intimate degree ceremony to come.
Later that evening, the spirit of brotherhood continued as many lodge members attended a performance of Terra Nova at the Powerhouse Theater in New Canaan, where Brother Regney was a cast member. The evening was a fitting conclusion to a day that blended Masonic tradition with camaraderie beyond the lodge as brethren, family, and friends enjoyed dinner and an inspiring theatrical performance!
This occasion exemplified the core values of Freemasonry—brotherhood and the support of each member’s journey, both within and outside the lodge. Ashlar Aspetuck Lodge No. 142 congratulates Brother Regney on beginning his Masonic journey and looks forward to seeing his continued growth in the fraternity. |
Bretheran,
We are excited to invite you to join us for a very special occasion as we welcome our newest candidate, Matt Regney, into the fraternity. We will be holding the Entered Apprentice Degree during the day on Saturday March 8th, and your presence would mean a great deal to Matt as he embarks on this journey. Let us come together to support him and celebrate the values we uphold. Please RSVP in WhatsApp or call the Junior Warden so we can make the necessary arrangements.
Looking forward to seeing all of you there!

The year 2025 began with the installation of officers on January 4th. Once again, the event was a lovely family affair. The ceremony set a warm and inclusive tone for the year ahead as the newly installed officers prepared to lead with dedication and purpose. Our first stated communication of the year took place under the leadership of Worshipful Master Bob Curwen. As with any leadership transition, there were a few rusty spots as everyone settled into their new roles, but the evening ran smoothly and cooperatively. The fellowship meal was thoughtfully prepared to be entirely gluten-free to accommodate Brother Christopher Holmes’ newly recognized dietary restrictions. This gesture by the Junior Warden set the tone for camaraderie and inclusiveness. The meal, often challenging to get right, proved that gluten-free can be both texturally correct and delicious! The effort was well-received by all in attendance. During the evening, we welcomed a new prospect and a visiting brother from Hiram Lodge No. 1. Unfortunately, the prospect later informed the Worshipful Master that he would not be moving forward with affiliation as his spiritual beliefs did not align with Freemasonry. While disappointing, the prospect’s sincere and thoughtful follow-up was appreciated. One key business item during the evening was the completion of officer installations for those who could not attend the January 4 ceremony. Right Worshipful Brother Bob Furce graciously conducted the installations, ensuring the Lodge was properly staffed in keeping with Grand Lodge rules. A highlight of the evening was Junior Warden Rick Cipot’s educational lecture on the Masonic connections to the Statue of Liberty. His presentation was both insightful and thought-provoking, providing an excellent primer for the Lodge’s upcoming trip to visit this iconic landmark. Brother Cipot’s knowledge and passion for the topic set the stage for what promises to be a meaningful experience for those making the trip. Overall, the first stated communication of 2025 was productive and energizing. With this momentum, the Lodge is well-positioned to build upon its successes and continue fostering the principles of brotherhood, charity, and education. |

On December 23, 2024, Ashlar-Aspetuck Lodge No.142, Easton, Connecticut, and Hiram Lodge No. 18, Sandy Hook, Connecticut, united in collaboration and universal brotherhood to raise Brothers Andrew Holms, Tomas Curwen, and Jose Fuentes to the sublime degree of Master Mason. This degree truly became a family affair, with sons, brothers, cousins, and uncles in attendance to participate in this momentous occasion and help raise our newest brothers to the sublime degree of Master Mason.
Worshipful Master Christopher Holms and Most Worshipful Past Grand Master George Greytak of Hiram 18, shared duties as the Worshipful Master throughout the evening, creating a collaborative and unified experience that underscored the spirit of brotherhood. Brothers from both lodges worked as a cohesive unit, delivering a powerful and meaningful ritual as shared members of the degree team. The evening was also enriched by Worshipful Brother Adam Plotnick, a great friend to AA142, who delivered the charge flawlessly.
The evening carried a deep sense of tradition and heritage as Worshipful Master Christopher Holms presided over the raising of his own son, Brother Andrew Holms, alongside Brother Tomas Curwen as “Lewis” Master Masons. As Worshipful Brother Adam Plotnick explained when presenting their Lewis jewels;
In Masonic tradition, the term “Lewis” symbolizes the bond between a father and son who are both Master Masons. The term is deeply rooted in the practices of operative masons of the past, where a “Lewis” was a tool used to lift and support heavy stones during construction. Just as the Lewis provided strength and support to its load, a “Lewis” Mason represents the strength, hope, and continuity of Masonic values passed from father to son.
Brother Tomas Curwen’s father, Brother William Curwen Jr., and his brother, Brother William Curwen III, and extended family were also present to assist in his raising. This ceremony beautifully celebrated the importance of the family in Freemasonry and the responsibility of passing Masonic principles to future generations while adding youthful vitality to the craft.
The evening was further supported by the presence of many visiting brothers from surrounding lodges and members of the Grand Lodge of Connecticut. Our lodge welcomed fresh faces from several lodges not often seen at Ashlar-Aspetuck. With approximately 35 brothers present, the Lodge room was full, and the fellowship before the ceremony was equally energetic, filled with camaraderie.
Among the distinguished visitors was Worshipful Brother Robert Heyfron from London England, who recently became an honorary member of AA142. He shared his ...exhilaration... at witnessing his first Master Mason degree in the United States. He noted that degrees in England (at those pivotal moments) are more, shall we say...subdued. However, he stated that at its core, the MM degree is the same as England. He did mention that there were subtle nuanced differences, but they would be typical of differences he experienced between Mother Lodges across England. His reflections added a unique perspective, emphasizing the universality of Masonic principles while celebrating their local distinctions.
Congratulations to Brothers Tomas Curwen, Jose Fuentes, and Andrew Holms, on reaching this significant milestone in their Masonic journey. The evening will be remembered as a testament to the power of family, collaboration, and brotherhood. |
