Moosup Lodge 113 began long ago...

The year was 1871 and local masonic brothers from the towns of Plainfield and its villages of Moosup, Almyville, Packerville and Central Village as well as the town of Sterling and the village of Oneco were generally known to be members of Moriah Lodge 15, then located in the town of Danielsonville (now Danielson). The main means of transportation at that time was via horse and buggy or by train. Brothers from those towns had quite an ordeal to travel to the lodge in Danielsonville. As more members from the Plainfield area joined masonry, it was thought that there should be a masonic lodge closer to where they live. In 1871, local masons petitioned the Grand Lodge of Connecticut and on June 4, 1872, The Charter of Moosup Lodge 113 AF & AM was presented. Moosup Lodge 113’s first Worshipful Master was George Lovegrove. Over the years, Moosup Lodge 113 has been a very active and inventive lodge. Moosup Lodge 113 is well know for its world famous “Quarry Rite!” A Masonic Degree performed in a working stone quarry and lit only by torch light. It’s quite an experience to see and be part of! Another well know activity is the “Ye Ol’ Table lodge”. It is a themed table lodge that features props and characters who portray various famous masons from the past, though some futuristic ideas have come up over recent years. The theme is always very closely guarded until the night of the event. For more on the Quarry Rite and Ye Ol’ Table lodge, please type those events into the search bar. Moosup Lodge continues to be recognized as one of the more active lodges in the area as well as for their masonic ritual and precise footwork and segue’s.
