Restoring Our Lodge
Our building at 120 West North Main Street went up around the turn of the last century. It was a general store before it was a lodge, and it is part of Waxhaw's historic district on the National Register of Historic Places.
Over the years the building changed. The old storefront was covered in stucco, and some of the side and rear windows were boarded over. In 2025 the Brethren decided to bring it back to the way it was meant to look.
Before
The stucco storefront, decorated for Christmas, before the work began.
The work
Late in 2025 the stucco came off. In its place went a new storefront in the style of the original, with historically accurate windows upstairs, on the side and on the back of the building, and new doors.
Where old brick had to be replaced, we used bricks made with the same methods as the originals, so the new work matches what was laid over a hundred years ago.
There was a surprise inside too. When the old drop ceiling came down on the first floor, it revealed the original twelve foot ceiling, with its beadboard and crown molding still in place.
The first floor fellowship hall today: the beadboard ceiling painted black, new floors, new lighting, and the new storefront windows looking out on Main Street.
After
The finished walkway beside the lodge, where the engraved bricks of our Historic Walkway Project are being laid.

The front of the building was finished in March 2026. Much of the work was made possible by gifts from Brothers and friends of the lodge through our Lodge Charity Account with the North Carolina Masonic Foundation. Thank you to everyone who gave.
The building is ready for its next hundred years on Main Street.
