About Waxhaw Lodge No. 562

The front of the Waxhaw Masonic Lodge on Main Street

Waxhaw Lodge No. 562 is a lodge of Ancient, Free and Accepted Masons under the Grand Lodge of North Carolina. We meet in our building on Main Street in downtown Waxhaw.

Our history

The Grand Lodge of North Carolina granted Waxhaw Lodge a dispensation on December 22, 1908, and chartered it as Lodge No. 562 on January 13, 1909. The lodge is still active today.

Masons were meeting in Waxhaw even before that. An earlier lodge, Waxhaw Lodge No. 442, was chartered on January 13, 1892, and surrendered its charter in 1906.

The label on this framed photograph reads "Old Waxhaw Lodge (About 1900)." It notes that the photo was presented by Hall and Frank McGuirt in 1982.

Our building

Our lodge meets at 120 West North Main Street, in a two-story brick building put up around 1900. It is known as the Weir Building. For many years it housed the Weir Store, a general merchandise store, and later a general store run by Luther Baker.

The building is part of the Waxhaw Historic District, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1991. The district's nomination calls it "one of the best preserved, most intact examples of Waxhaw's commercial buildings."

In 2025 and 2026 the lodge restored the front of the building. You can read about that work on our Restoration page.
