St. Peter’s Lodge No. 21 New Masonic Library

St. Peter’s Lodge No. 21 is proud to announce the opening of its new Masonic library with approximately 600 books on Masonry that were generously donated from Grand Lodge as well as supportive brothers. The collection includes sections on Appendant Bodies, Legal, Ritual and Masonic Exposes, Regional Freemasonry, Encyclopedias and Dictionaries, as well as a Recommended Reading section.

Worshipful Brother Matt Fitzgibbons and the other members of the Library Committee (RWB Peter Dolce, and Brothers Michael Horton, and Peter Cleary) have made the creation of a Masonic library at St. Peter’s Lodge No. 21 a high priority and shared that the goal was to make it the premier Masonic library in Western Connecticut. The Masonic library and the Brothers of St. Peter’s Lodge are grateful for the gifting of many books made by R.W.B. Dave Stewart (CT G.L. Grand Lodge Archivist) through M.W.B. Joseph Porco and various Brothers including Brother Peter Cleary who donated many of our "Recommended Reading" section.

In the operative days of Freemasonry, during the Middle Ages, the education Masons received from the fraternity was the only one open to them. But as Freemasonry gradually changed into its modern speculative form, Masons have always emphasized the value of reading and continuing one's education throughout life. This passion for learning is one of many reasons Freemasonry became key to the Enlightenment period throughout Europe. The acquisition of old ideas and the free exchange of new ones contributed significantly to the modern world we live in. In keeping with this tradition, the Brothers of St. Peter’s Lodge No. 21 regularly sign out books from the new library and are engaged in furthering their own Masonic education.

St. Peter’s Lodge and it’s Library Committee sincerely welcome other Brothers who wish to visit the library to coordinate their visit during one of our regularly scheduled meetings on the first and third Tuesday of the month, excluding July and August when the Lodge is closed for the summer.
