The news from our lodge…

Master's Message April 27th, 2025  on 04/27/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

I have a sad note to begin this week’s message, Brother Dave Mullen’s mom, Phyllis, passed away this week. The Lodge extends our deepest condolences to Dave and his family.

This past week’s travels took me to Hartford Evergreen 88 and Fayette 69 for their Stated Communications and Fellowcraft degrees. The respective officers did a wonderful job and both Middle Chamber lectures were exquisite. The Lodge meetings were very well attended. Saturday, I attended Washington 70 for the DD Presentation for RW Bob Dodge. Congratulations to him and his AGM. Today I’m headed to Southington for another DD Presentation.

Thursday the usual fellowship took place at Putnam 46. The weather cooperated and we were able to sit on the porch for the first time this spring. Perhaps this week we can do a little grilling. Please consider stopping by and saying hello.

This upcoming week on Tuesday is the 9th District BLC meeting, the meeting is at our Lodge. Meal is at 6pm and meeting at 7pm. Of special note, the 9B Mason of the Year will be announced. Let’s have a great turnout and make a run at the Gavel and trowel.

Coming up on Saturday 5/3 the Celebration of Life for Al Reid will be held at 1100, 2183 Main St Glastonbury, Church of Christ Congregational. From there I will be travelling to New Haven for the DD presentation for Michael Abrahamson at 1400. Also, on Saturday at 1600 will be a celebration of life for Brother Dave’s mom, Phyllis, at the lodge.

The Lodge has a scheduled degree work as follows:

Entered Apprentice Degree – June 7 at 1000 – Quarterly Communication

Fellow Craft Degree – July 12 at 1000 – Special Communication

Master Mason Degree – August 2 Moosup Quarry Degree* or at our September Quarterly September 6 at 1000.

ATTENTION - For our May 10, 2025, stated communication, dispensation has been GRANTED to move our meeting from 1930hrs to 10am. RW John Rhoads will be our speaker. I can’t wait to hear what he’ll be presenting. Please consider joining us!

May the God of Peace delight to dwell with and bless you,

WM Rob

Master's Message April 13th, 2025  on 04/13/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

Unfortunately, this week’s message begins with some terrible news. Beloved Lodge member Al Reid laid down his working tools and travelled to that lodge not made with hands eternal in the heavens on April 2nd.  Al’s son, WB Scott Reid reached out that Al’s health took a quick turn for the worst and was in hospice. He suggested that if I wanted to visit with Al, I needed to head to the hospital asap. I was fortunate to spend some time with Al, Scott and his family before Al passed. His services will be held on May 3 at 1100 at First Church of Christ, 2183 Main St Glastonbury Ct. I know I will be in attendance and several other Brothers are planning to go. Please consider coming out and showing support for the family during this difficult time.

This week has been quite busy. Monday, I travelled to Valley Lodge 36 in Simsbury and had the pleasure of spending time with MW Bill Bowman and many other Brothers. They ran an efficient business meeting and panning session for their Easter egg hunt and breakfast event that took place this weekend. I had planned on going to Ionic Lodge Tuesday but unfortunately a work-related event made that impossible. Wednesday brought me to Moriah 15 for their Stated Communication. Thursday, Brothers met for the usual fellowship and a little cigar smoking. Finally on Saturday Putnam 46 held it’s Stated communication. Before we headed upstairs for the meeting, we enjoyed a meal consisting of ham, scalloped potatoes, salad and a wonderful dessert. Between the meal and meeting we had a speaker, Karen Swanberg from the Woodstock Theft Detecting Society. I think everyone found her presentation interesting. My sincere thanks to Stewards Justin and Micah along with Ladies Malin and Laerke for their assistance in the kitchen, service and clean up – outstanding job by everyone!

During the stated communication I had the pleasure of presenting Bro. Chris Bowen with a challenge coin from the Grand Lodge of North Carolina via Ct Grand Lodge. The coins are being used as a fund raiser to offset so much loss due to the storms they endured. The coins are individually numbered 1-100. I presented Chris with coin number 29, which is a number equivalent to the first letters of his business name.

The Lodge Brothers than decided to surprise me with a 2025-2034 monthly planner. I’m looking forward to documenting my journey with in it’s pages, very thoughtful my Brothers!

The Lodge has a new candidate coming through and will be performing degree work as follows:

Entered Apprentice Degree – June 7 at 1000 – Quarterly Communication

Fellow Craft Degree – July 12 at 1000 – Special Communication

Master Mason Degree – August 2 Moosup Quarry Degree* or at our September Quarterly September 6 at 1000.

Today I’m off to a DeMolay fundraiser and then I’m looking forward to seeing everyone for fellowship on Thursday. If the weather cooperates perhaps, we can begin the grilling season at Lodge? If you participated last year, you know to bring something to grill, and we’ll cook it up for you and enjoy each other’s company.

WM Rob

Master's Message April 6th, 2025  on 04/06/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

This past Thursday Brothers gathered at 1700 hrs to perform some much needed clean up at the Woodstock fairgrounds lodge room on the third floor of the exhibition hall building. While the space is far from perfect it should suffice to hold a meeting. The current thought is that we will hold a Special Communication during the period between the May and June Stated Communications.

The Grand Lodge session was held over the weekend.  Congratulations to our new Grandmaster MWB Ronaldo F. Magliano and all the elected and appointed Grand Lodge Officers. Thank you to all the Brothers who took time to attend the meeting. It was wonderful to be in your company and I sincerely appreciate everyone’s support. It is truly an honor to be appointed as Grand Junior Steward in the Grand Line.

Congratulations to RW Ray Chouinard on being appointed as District Deputy for District 9B and WB Dave Boland as his AGM. The District Deputy presentation for RW Ray will be held on Sunday, May 18 at 4 pm at Fayette 69 in Ellington. Please make every effort to come out and support the new Deputy. Congratulations also go to WB Chad Dufault of Moosup 113 on being appointed AGM for 9A serving with RW Adam Feeney. I look forward to working with each of you.

This week’s travelling opportunities are many. Tomorrow I’m planning on heading to Simsbury to Valley Lodge 36, this is MWB Bill Bowman’s mother lodge. The lodge is having a meal at 1830 and EA Degree at 1930. Tuesday is Ionic 110’s Stated Communication, and Wednesday is Moriah 15’s at 1930. If you’d like to join me, please let me know. We can carpool from my house.

Our next Stated Communication is April 12 at 1930. The planned meal is Ham, scalloped potatoes and salad. We also have speaker from the Woodstock Theft Detection Society. Please make every effort to join us.

ATTENTION - For our May 10, 2025, stated communication, dispensation has been GRANTED to move our meeting from 1930hrs to 10am. Letters to the craft have gone out. Please make note of this change. This dispensation is to allow the lodge to attend Fayette Lodge 69’s cornerstone rededication in honor of their 200th anniversary. Please consider attending this event as the Grand Master will be in attendance.

May the God of Peace delight to dwell with and bless you,

WM Rob

Master's Message March 30th, 2025  on 03/30/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

This past Thursday a small group gathered as usual for fellowship. It was discussed and decided that we will go forward with our plans to hold the June Stated at the fairgrounds lodge room. Clean-up efforts will begin this Thursday at 1700 (5pm). If you’re available, please stop by and lend a hand.

The Lodge’s visit to the AASR library and museum went off without a hitch. I’m pleased to report that attendees had a great time, and we were able to see many artifacts. The museum is well worth a visit if you ever have the opportunity.

The Grand Lodge session is next weekend – April 4. The Master’s and Warden’s proxies have been signed, and the Lodge will be carpooling. It’s mandatory that the senior officers and/or their proxy are in attendance. Malin and I will be there all weekend, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone

Our next Stated Communication is April 12 at 1930. The planned meal is Ham, scalloped potatoes and salad. We also have a planned speaker from the Woodstock Theft Protection Society. Please make every effort to join us.

ATTENTION - For our May 10, 2025, stated communication, dispensation has been GRANTED to move our meeting from 1930hrs to 10am. Letters to the craft will be going out this week. Master's Message March 23rd, 2025  on 03/23/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

This past Thursday in addition to our usual fellowship, Barry, Sam and I visited the fairgrounds and our Lodge’s previous meeting space. The Lodge hasn’t met there since approx. 1919! It had been a vision of many Brothers, some unfortunately are no longer with us to hold a Stated Communication in the space. We are going to attempt this for the June Quarterly. Now, the space is rough to say the least. It hasn’t been touched in years, and it shows. However, with a little – I mean a lot of elbow grease I think it can be made presentable. Over the next few weeks, I’m going to ask that we all pitch in and tidy up the room and discuss some relatively simple cosmetic things we can do. Stay tuned for updates on this labor of love.

I had the privilege of carpooling with our MW Grand Master, Edward C. Page to the statewide Master Mason Degree in New Haven on Saturday. The event was well attended, and we can welcome 9 new Master Masons to our ranks.

Also, on Saturday several Putnam 46 Brothers attended the Valley of Norwich reunion in Preston at the Masonic Center. I understand all enjoyed the day!

Reservations are now closed for our Saturday 3/29 visit to Lexington Ma. to tour the AASR museum, we have 10 Brothers who have signed up. Please remember that we will be leaving at 0815 from Putnam 46. Don’t be late as you will miss your ride. Also, each attendee needs to bring the $15 for admission and some lunch money, as we will be stopping after the tours.

The Grand Lodge session is fast approaching – April 4. The Master’s and Warden’s  proxies have been signed and the Lodge will likely be working out carpooling. It’s mandatory that the senior officers and/or their proxy are in attendance.

ATTENTION - For our May 10, 2025, stated communication, dispensation has been GRANTED to move our meeting from 1930hrs to 10am. Letters to the craft will be going out this week. Please consider attending this event as the Grand Master will be in attendance.

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

WB Tim Loomis shared a couple of new baby photos I’d like to share with everyone – Congratulations once again to Grand Dad WB Tim and new Dad Will.

This past Tuesday I travelled to Fayette 69’s Stated Communication and Wednesday I found myself at Moriah 15’s Stated Communication. The Grand Master, Edward C. Page attended both meetings, and I was honored to accompany him, joining his suite of officers. The meetings were well attended.

This week has no local Lodge travelling opportunities. I do however look forward to seeing as many brothers as possible this coming Thursday for fellowship. Also, on Saturday there are two distant travelling opportunities – first is the Statewide Master Mason Degree in New Haven. If anyone would like to join me, please let me know. The second is a Valley of Norwich reunion with the 16th and 18th being portrayed.

Coming up on Saturday 3/29 We Will be headed to Lexington Ma. To tour the AASR museum, there is still time to reserve a spot. We have 10 Brothers who have signed up.

Master's Message March 3rd, 2025  on 03/09/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

The Lodge received wonderful news yesterday - Please join me in congratulating Bro Will Loomis and his wife on welcoming their first child yesterday! Mom and baby are doing well. I’m sure WB Tim is a proud grandfather!

This past Tuesday I travelled to Moosup 113’s Stated Communication. The Grand Master, MWB Edward C. Page was in attendance. John Rhoads and I were honored to join his suite of dignitaries. As usual it wonderful to visit Moosup, the fellowship was very welcoming.

Yesterday was Putnam 46’s Quarterly meeting. We received two new petitions and balloted on a new affiliate member, WB Bob Witham, who is originally from Maine. Please join we in extending our warmest fraternal welcome to him. I also had the opportunity with help from Bro. Micah to present our newly acquired Historian apron and jewel to Bro. Sam McGovern.

WB Evan and I also presented new Square and Compass pins to Bros. Micah and Sam.

After the business meeting, we proceeded downstairs to listen to a presentation by Ed Parry of Black Hart Long Guns, who used to be based in Eastford. He discussed the ratio of Phi – the 3 to 5 ratio found in nature. He also brought one of his beautiful creations for us to look at.

Once the presentation was concluded all present enjoyed a fantastic lunch of Corned beef and Cabbage. Thank you to everyone that contributed to a successful meal, my wife Malin and Peter Rinaudo who got everything going first thing in the morning. Thank you also to Bros. Justin and Micah and Lady Laerke who helped with serving. Lastly, thanks to everyone who cleaned up, especially Bro. Chris Bowen who stayed to the very end and even took the garbage with him.

A traveling opportunity this week includes Moriah 15 on Wednesday at 1930. The Grand Master is scheduled to be received. I plan on attending, if you’d like to carpool, please let me know.

Coming up on Saturday 3/29 We Will be headed to Lexington Ma. To tour the AASR museum, there is still time to reserve a spot. We have 10 Brothers who have signed up.

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

This past week, a group of Lodge officers travelled to Wooster 10 in Colchester for a well done Entered Apprentice degree. Congratulations to their new Brother Bill Long. It was wonderful to see the many Brothers from far and wide who gathered to support WM Frank Rich and his officers. Our JD Craig Chatwin assisted in the same role for Wooster – thanks Craig, I know your services were appreciated.

WB Barry Shead and his son travelled to Florida for some baseball spring training. Along the way he met up with RW Carl Mossberg for lunch. Barry reports they had a great time.

Master Message February 16th 2025  on 02/16/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

Happy Sunday everyone, guess we’re digging out again. At least the start of the motor racing season is upon us. The Daytona 500 is this afternoon.

This past Wednesday I travelled to Moriah lodge for their stated communication. Of special note was an interesting short presentation by WB Brian Keith of Moosup 113 on the 47th Problem of Euclid, aka the Pythagorean Theorem.  I and the other Brothers found it quite enlightening. Once again, the brothers were so welcoming. If you haven’t been to Moriah 15 lately you really should put a visit on your calendar

We met Thursday for the usual fellowship. We enjoyed a little pizza and a cake brought by Bro. Bruce. It’s always nice to enjoy each other’s company and conversation.

Saturday evening brought the Ladies at Table event. Despite the weather not cooperating the dinner was enjoyed by 24 attendees. Reports are everyone enjoyed their meals and conversation. Thank you to WB Barry for the Grace and toasts. Also, thanks to Brother Chris Bowen for his generosity. We had a special guest as well; we were so fortunate to have Debbi Farquhar join us.

Traveling opportunities this week are on Wednesday – Somerset-St. James Lodge. RWB C.A. Duke is scheduled to receive his 50yr Pin. Most of you know how well travelled Duke is, he seems to be everywhere. Please, consider joining me Wednesday to show him our support. For the AASR members, Saturday 2/22 is a reunion at the Valley Norwich, the 4th, 6th, and 14th degrees will be portrayed starting at 0900.

Putnam 46’s next Stated Communication is Saturday March 8 at 1000. This is a quarterly communication and we will have a speaker from Black Hart Long Guns and a lunch of Corned Beef and Cabbage – this is a meeting you don’t want to miss!

We have 8 Brothers who so far have signed up for the AASR Museum tour in Lexington Ma on 3/29. The cost is $15 per person. We have secured tours of the facility including the Library treasures, 50 years of collecting, and the behind the scenes. Each of the tour segments are approx. 30 mins. in duration. Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

Happy Superbowl Sunday! I imagine most of you spent the morning digging out. Thank goodness we didn’t get the 10” forecast – 4 or 5” is enough!

I travelled to Moosup Lodge 113 Tuesday evening to attend their Stated Communication. The Lodge and Officers are always so welcoming. I enjoyed the fellowship, thanks.

We met Thursday for the usual fellowship and prepped the Lodge for Saturday’s Communication. Fast forward to Saturday and we all enjoyed a wonderful meal of Lasagna, garlic bread and salad. Not to mention the desert of ice cream cake and many – too many cookies. Thank you to everyone that contributed.

Our scheduled speaker – Mark Sheldon, from the Sons of the American Revolution put on a wonderful presentation. From the uniform, weapons and reenactments they do it’s quite the spectacle. Thank you Mark for educating us all on what your group does.

Traveling opportunities this week are on Tuesday – Fayette Lodge 69 and Wednesday – Moriah Lodge 15, the Grand Master is scheduled to be in attendance. If you’d like to travel to either meeting, please let me know and we can work out the carpooling arrangements.

This coming Saturday, February 15, 20 Brothers and their wives will be headed to Grill 37 for our Ladies night. Reservations are now closed. If you haven’t paid for your tickets yet, please drop it off Thursday or bring a check with you Saturday.

We will carpool from the lodge, leaving at 0815, tour at 1000. This tour is limited to 15 Brothers and is filling up fast. Lastly, we will also be stopping for lunch after the tour either in Lexington, Concord or Boston. It should be a fun day. Let me know if you’d like to join us.

For our May 10, 2025 stated communication, we have requested dispensation to move our meeting from 1930hrs to 10am. Please make note of this potential change. This dispensation has been requested to allow the lodge to attend Fayette Lodge 69’s cornerstone rededication in honor of their 200th anniversary.

May the God of Peace delight to dwell with and bless you,

WM Rob

February 2nd, 2025, Master Message  on 02/02/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

What a week it has been!

Wednesday a delegation of 10 Brothers from Putnam 46 headed over to Uriel Lodge 24 in Merrow for the Blue Lodge Council dinner and meeting. I can’t remember a better-attended event, and the dinner was superb!

Congratulations to District 9A Mason of the Year, Chad Dufault of Moosup 113. A well-deserved honor.

MWGM Edward Page then took the floor. He expressed his affection for the fraternity and that he considers it his family.

The BLC was then introduced to the incoming District Deputy and Associate Grand Marshal of District 9B, Ray Chouinard and Dave Boland, both of Fayette 69. Congratulations to you both and I look forward to working with you.

MWGM Page then explained his year was in the final months and introduced his replacement in the Grand Line  - I am so honored and humbled to be that Mason. My thanks to the Permanent members and the Grand Master for electing me to the Grand Line. MW Edward has set the bar very high, an example we should all aspire to. Congratulations on your year in the Grand East. I know I have very large shoes to fill and commit to you all that I will do my very best to live up to the expectations and confidence you have placed in me. I look forward to working with each of you and supporting the Lodges and District as a whole.

The Grand Master then called up the Assistant to the Grand Master, RW Chris Carrott. A wonderful bio was read and RW Chris was presented with the Pierpont Edwards Award in Bronze – a very worthy Brother indeed. Congratulations Chris!

Last but not least BLC President WB Evan Perry presented the Travelling Gavel and Trowel. Congratulations to Uriel Lodge on winning the gavel and Moriah lodge on winning the trowel.

Looking forward to the upcoming week, the Lodge will meet Thursday for the usual fellowship. We will need to set up the dining room and prep the kitchen for Saturday’s stated communication. We will be having a meal at 1830 consisting of lasagna, garlic bread and salad. We will also have a scheduled speaker – Mark Sheldon, of the Sons of the American Revolution at 1930. This promises to be a great meeting – please try to join us. I’d ask that if you plan on joining us for dinner to RSVP to robertseubanks@gmail.com. Thanks in advance.

Traveling opportunities this week are on Tuesday – Moosup Lodge 113 and I’d like to rekindle our fraternal relationship with Wooster 10 in Colchester on Friday at 1930. If you’d like to travel to either meeting, please let me know and we can work out the carpooling arrangements.

On February 15, 20 Brothers and their wives will be headed to Grill 37 for our Ladies night. We have secured the Veranda to hold our event I am looking forward to it. We have been given a wonderful menu of plated choices, along with apps, wine offerings, and a desert. There is still time to be added to our group.  If interested please let me know.

Master Message January 26th, 2025  on 01/26/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

On Thursday the MBC Annual meeting and election of officer’s was held. Congratulations to our newly re-elected officers, John Rhoads as President and yours truly for Secretary-Treasurer. The terms are for one year. In other MBC news, the plumbing involved in the men’s room renovations has been done – we have some other final touches and the project will be completed. Thanks to Ryan Snide of Moosup 113 for the hard work.

This week the Lodge contacted the AASR Museum in Lexington Ma and we have secured tours of the facility including the Library treasures, 50 years of collecting, and the behind the scenes. Each of the tour segments are approx. 30 mins. in duration. The date for this Lodge trip is 3/29. We will carpool from the lodge, leaving at 0815, tour at 1000. Cost is $15 per person and there is a sign up sheet at the lodge. You may also contact me to be added to the list. This tour is limited to 15 Brothers and is filling up fast. Lastly, we will also be stopping for lunch after the tour either in Lexington, Concord or Boston. It should be a fun day.

The next Blue Lodge Council meeting will be held at Uriel Lodge 24 in Merrow next Wednesday 1/29, dinner at 6pm and meeting at 7pm. This is a great opportunity to try and win the traveling Gavel. Brothers are meeting at Lodge for 5pm and then carpooling from my house in Eastford, leaving at 530pm. Please consider joining us, It promises to be an exciting evening of fellowship.

Update on the Ladies at Table event. We have 8 couples and 2 singles committed to the event. Unfortunately we do not have sufficient interest to hold a formal event and rent out the big room at Grill 37. The Lodge will therefor secure group dinner reservations in lieu of the planned event. We are still aiming for Feb 15. Please check back here next week for finalized plans. If interested please let me know.

May the God of Peace delight to dwell with and bless you,

WM Rob

Master Message January 12th 2025  on 01/12/2025

Brethren,

I hope this message finds you and your family healthy and doing well.

This week at Putnam Lodge was quite busy. On Tuesday Brothers attended Moosup Lodge’s Stated Communication followed by Moriah’s On Wednesday. Both meetings were well attended and we enjoyed the fellowship offed by both Lodges.

Thursday night’s fellowship found the usual crew at Lodge. The Lodge was tidied up, preparations for our Stated communication were completed, A brief rehearsal took place and we even found time for a cigar. All Brothers should consider stopping by and enjoying the fellowship your Lodge has to offer. You could spend 2 minutes or 2 hours at Lodge, you wont be sorry you did.

Friday evening I attended Wooster 10 Lodge installation in Colchester. Congratulations to friend and Brother Frank Rich on being elected again to lead the Lodge. For those that don’t know Putnam Lodge 46 has a long history with Wooster 10. Both Lodges used to enjoy visiting each other frequently – perhaps we could re ignite an old tradition.

Saturday brought our Stated Communication. Many Brothers braved the snow and came out to support the Lodge. Prior to the meeting a wonderful dinner consisting of grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato-basil soup was enjoyed. Something about grilled cheese and tomato soup on a cold snowy day that just hits the spot. My heartfelt thanks to our stewards Justin Kupiec and Micah Yanis who admirably prepared and served the meal. A more efficient kitchen crew hasn’t been seen. They even cleaned up and put everything away before the meeting even started. Thanks Brothers! During the meeting our SW, WB Eric Bruyere received his 10 yr service pin and Brothers Micah and Sam were presented with their Leather aprons, GL Patents, and dues cards.

During the business meeting there was a discussion of the Master’s message format and whether we should use the Grand View format or the Mailchimp version. It was decided to migrate permanently to the Grand View version. Please look to the very bottom of the message you are receiving, if it says Mailchimp (and you haven’t been receiving both versions) you MUST contact our Secretary Evan Perry to continue to receive the messages. He can be reached at evanmperry@gmail.com.

Looking to this week, Thursday the Lodge plans on visiting Ken Marvin again. If you would like to join us, please meet at Lodge for 1800, we will car pool to Westview, leaving at 1815.

Reminder RW John Rhoads has called for the MBC Annual meeting and election of officer’s to be held on Thursday 1/23 at 1830, all Putnam 46 Brothers are invited and encouraged to attend. In addition to the election of officers upcoming work planning will be discussed along with any business from the floor.

The next Blue Lodge Council meeting will be held at Uriel Lodge 24 in Merrow on Wednesday 1/29, dinner at 6pm and meeting at 7pm. This is a great opportunity to try and win the traveling Gavel. I’m here to help carpool as necessary – let’s try to have a great turnout! Officers are strongly encouraged to attend.

In February, the Lodge would like to hold a Ladies at Table event. So far only 3 couples have indicated they would attend, if you would be interested in attending please let me know asap.

Looking to March, an event in NYC has come to my attention. Several Brothers have already let me know they’d like to travel to it. If you’d like to join us please drop me a note. We can figure out the travel arrangements including a train ride from New Haven to the city. Reservations are a must.

May the God of Peace delight to dwell with and bless you,

WM Rob
