Brethren, After chatting with the Grand Secretary I was under the impression this Amendment would be withdrawn and not brought before the Grand Lodge for a vote, Needless to say, my impression was wrong. This per capita increase if passed will be RETROACTIVE BACK TO JANUARY 1, 2023 meaning that the lodge will have to absorb this since dues from 2023 and 2024 have already been collected and we can't ask the members to send us an additional $10 covering 2023 and 2024. Based on our current membership this will be an additional $930 we will owe the Grand Lodge in addition to the 2025 per capita bill of $3720 ($40 x 93) that we will owe, making it a total of $4650 + the other charges for dues cards, etc. I've attached the 2024 Reports Book below so you can read it for yourselves. S/f, Amendment Group 14 The following amendment has been submitted by Grand Master Donald E. Kehler. This amendment would amend Regulation 20-1.1 to increase the PerCapita from $35.00 to $40.00 annually. Chapter 20 – Per Capita Tax and Initiation FeeReg. 20-1 – Established REG. 20-1 ESTABLISHED.Each lodge, including lodges under dispensation, shall pay annually to theGrand Secretary, for the use of the Grand Lodge, the sums hereinafterspecified.1. The sum of forty dollars ($40.00) and for each member of the lodge at low twelve on December thirty-first. A lodge shall be exempt from the payment of the annual assessment to the Grand Lodge for any member who has received the Fifty-YearService Award and any member of a lodge whose dues have been remitted under Reg. 77-14.2. (5-1.1; 20-1; 81-1; 81-7). (This regulation amended effective January 1, 2023.) Respectfully submitted, Matthew C. Robbins, Chairman |

Brethren, As discussed at our stated meeting this past Tuesday evening below is the "NC Mason Online Supplement" link: https://masonpost.com/ncmason/NCMason_Sup202407.pdf Unfortunately this supplement will not be printed and mailed and is available only on line. The "operative word" here is "online." This will be the only place you'll find the lodge information that was contained in our newspaper style NC Mason that served us so well for so many years. However, I'm told this is progress. I'll let you be the judge. S/f, Paul Miller, Secretary |

Brethren, After receiving a case of NC Masons a couple of months ago I went into Grand View and discovered all Eureka members had been removed from direct mailing of the magazine. I then went into each members record and added the direct mailing method back which took some time because it couldn't be done collectively, it had to be done individually. I discovered that both Hall and Currituck received their NC Masons by the box as Eureka did a couple of months ago. Not what they were expecting. This is the magazines way of saving postage. The problem is those don't come to lodge on a regular basis. Unfortunately, there are a lot more that don't come than those that do. I asked the editor, Bro Don Butto about this back in June and he said to deliver them to the members during visitation. This is completely unrealistic and near impossible especially with those members that have moved out of state. I have not received mine as of today. I talked with Don Butto last Thursday and supposedly they were mailed by the print shop at Oxford a couple of weeks ago. If you've received the NC Mason please email me. DO NOT REPLY if you have not received the NC Mason. Thank you, S/f, Paul Miller, Secretary |

Brethren, Last Tuesday Doug Brickhouse's brother Troy had a heart attack. I talked with Doug a few days ago and he told me about his brother. He said Troy had the heart attack on Tuesday, then he felt better the next day and went to work Wednesday and Thursday. Friday Doug talked him in to going to the Emergency Room at SAMC. A heart attack was confirmed and he was admitted to SAMC awaiting transfer to Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk for heart bypass surgery. The transfer took place I assume yesterday or today and his bypass surgery is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday, August 22nd. Please keep Troy, Doug and the family in your prayers that all goes well tomorrow. Skip has Troy's address and has put a card in the mail from the lodge. Brethren, I previously sent an email regarding electronic petitions. This is an update to that email. If you have a prospective candidate, do not, repeat, do not give me a petition, Form 17 and take no money from the prospect. Provide me the following information on your prospective candidate: a. First and Last Name b. Email address (make absolutely sure you have this correct) c. Mobile phone number (make absolutely sure you have this correct) d. Zip Code I will then take the above information and create a prospect for Eureka Lodge and an email link will go to his email address and he will click on the link provided in that email and proceed from there to fill out the petition, pay all necessary fees using a credit card, and then will move on to the background check and again pay all necessary investigative fees using his credit card which at a minimum will be $33.50. Once he has completed all forms and paid all fees this information will go to the grand lodge for certification. I will validate the recommenders. Both recommenders must be current active NC Masons and at least one recommender must be a member of Eureka Lodge. Recommending prospects to the lodge. If you don't know them, DON'T RECOMMEND THEM and DON'T ASK OTHER BROTHERS IN THE LODGE TO SIGN AS A RECOMMENDER IF THEY DON'T KNOW THE PERSON. IF YOU DON'T KNOW THE PETITIONER YOUR OBLIGATION IS TO NOT RECOMMEND HIM FOR MEMBERSHIP and/or REFUSE TO SIGN THE PETITION. If a person or stranger whom you're not familiar with asks you for a petition invite them to our dinner, DO NOT GIVE THEM A PETITION. Also prospects that you only casually know, see a couple of times per month is also not a prospect to receive a petition. Invite them to dinner. To truly get to know a prospect takes time, it doesn't happen in a week or two. As Master Masons it is our obligation to protect the West Gate. I know this sounds confusing, however, after the first one it should go pretty smoothly. Lasly, I stated in my previous email on this subject that the investigation committee and others would need access to Grand View. This has changed and I will provide more information when we get to this point. Sincerely and fraternally, Paul Miller, P.M., Secretary |

Harry P. Lee, Sr. Obituary
Greetings Brethren,
The space program can be directly traced to the first flight of the Wright Brothers machine at Kitty Hawk and early military and civilian rocket tests that occurred in the Outer Banks. Bro. James Webb - a native of Tally Ho, North Carolina and a member of Oxford Lodge #122 and University Lodge #408, served as NASA’s Administrator at the beginning of the space program and helped shape the scientific advances that have led to the betterment of mankind. In addition, Morehead Planetarium at UNC-Chapel Hill served as a training ground for the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, & Soyuz-Skylab astronauts where they learned celestial navigation.
In recognition of this connection, under special dispensations from the Grand Lodges of North Carolina and Texas, Tranquility Lodge #2000 (“the Moon Lodge”) will hold its next meeting at University Lodge #408 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina on April 27, 2024.
From First in Flight to First on the Moon
The main purpose of Tranquility Lodge #2000’s meeting is to the present the Community Builder Award to Dr. Todd Boyette, Director of Morehead Planetarium – in recognition of Morehead Planetarium’s important contribution to space exploration and Dr. Boyette’s passion for bringing science education to children through the North Carolina Science Festival (NCSciFest) and other activities. But this is also an opportunity to build brotherly love and friendship amongst brothers from our two Grand Lodges and any brothers attending from other Grand Jurisdictions.
I invite you to come for this extraordinary event – a chance to greet our Texas brothers and see differences in ritual of another grand jurisdiction. This will also be an opportunity to learn how our fraternity and our state have and will continue to support science education and the space program. You do not have to be a member of Tranquility Lodge #2000 to attend.
I hope you can join us for this "The Seventh Step" the most superb model of excellence.
Sincerely and fraternally,
Donald E. Kehler

About Tranquility Lodge #2000
Tranquility Lodge #2000 is a special lodge chartered by the The Grand Lodge of Texas that meets quarterly in various cities of Texas, including an annual meeting held in Waco on or near the anniversary of the first moon landing. On July 20, 1969, Brother Edwin “Buzz” Aldrin landed on the moon. He carried with him special deputization from J. Guy Smith, the then Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Texas, authorizing him to claim Masonic Territorial Jurisdiction for The Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of Texas, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons. From this act, Tranquility Lodge #2000 was established in 1999 as a special lodge that would meet on the surface of the moon when it became possible to do so.
Philanthropic Work of Tranquility Lodge #2000
Tranquility Lodge #2000 provides financial support for organizations involved in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education, particularly those related to space exploration. Since about 2011, the lodge has provided financial assistance annually to teachers attending the Space Exploration Educators Conference (SEEC) at Space Center Houston. In addition, the lodge is entering its second 5-year commitment to the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation – which provides graduate scholarships in space science and have also supported the work of the Conrad Foundation and the Conrad Challenge.
About the Community Builder Award
This prestigious award was established by the Grand Lodge of Texas so that lodges can formally recognize outstanding non-Masons who have distinguished themselves through their service to the community, local and state governments, places of worship, or to humanity at large.
About North Carolina’s Contribution to Space Programs
Today, North Carolina’s Space Grant Program involves all public universities and community colleges in North Carolina and many private universities. The Space Grant program is supported by NASA and hosted at NC-State University. There have been many astronauts from North Carolina, including Christina Hammock Koch, who has been selected to be one of the first astronauts to return to the moon. North Carolina businesses have also been a part of space exploration from the beginning, including A-B Emblem, whose Apollo Mission patch was worn by Bro. Buzz Aldrin. There are currently four Astronaut Scholars at North Carolina universities (three at NC A&T and one at NCSU).

Brethren,
This is an update to the previous email, 6 PALLBEARERS will also be needed at the chapel to carry the casket to the hearse. Once that is done you'll get in your cars and drive to the cemetary. When you get at the cemetary just look for a green tent on wheels and you're probably in the right location. Park away from the burial site and walk back. Just make sure you park at the funeral home in a place that your not in the procesion.
Please try to make it and help us out.
S/f,
Paul
Brethren,
There will be masonic rites GRAVESIDE at West Lawn Cemetary, Monday after the 1pm funeral service. Our Master, W/Bro Johnny Nichols will be doing the rites graveside. We will need 6 brothers to be pallbearers. As of now the pallbearers will only be needed at the cemetary. The pallbearers will need to be at the cemetary before the arrival of the hearse. The funeral is at 1pm at the chapel...depending on the length I would suspect that the funeral graveside will start at around 1:45pm. If you attend the funeral make sure you park in a place that you are NOT IN THE PROSESSION. This will allow you to get to the cemetary quickly.
Please attend if you can.

"They must learn it by memory. By more than memory, they must learn it by heart. Not so that they can simply recite the words but so that they feel them, the shape of the story as it changes and lifts and falls and rushes or meanders toward its climax. So that they can recall and relate the story as intimately as if they have lived it themselves and as objectively as if they have played every role within."
With this in mind I, and in conjunction with the Board of Custodians, invite you to participate in an event called "The Ritual Restoration Symposium" to help solidify our Official Standard of Work in this Grand Jurisdiction. TEST, PLEASE DISREGARD.
Brethren,
In order to keep you informed, I was informed this afternoon that the $10 per capita increase passed, I was told "unanamously." Although it's hard to believe that every single delegate voted for it, regardless, it passed.
It's unconsionable to me that the membership would agree to paying more especially with the current economy. But, they did!
Eureka Lodge dues will go up another $10 making 2024 dues $186.00.
Brethren,
Eureka Ladies Night will be October 7th at 6pm at Eureka Lodge. We will again this year be sharing the evening with Elizabeth City York Rite Bodies. TopSide in Camden will be the caterer and W/Bro Bill Durham will be providing the entertainment for the evening. Come out and enjoy.

The Traditional Observance Lodge
Dennis V. Chornenky
President, Masonic Restoration Foundation
While many Masons may have heard about European Concept lodges, which are themselves a relatively new concept in American Freemasonry, few have heard of the TraditionalObservancelodge. TraditionalObservancelodgesaresimilartoEuropean Concept lodges in that they also incorporate higher dues, festive boards, a strict dress code and higher standards of ritual, but differ in that they choose to follow a close observance of the traditional initiatic elements of Continental European and South American Freemasonry.
This observance is characterized by a solemn approach to holding stated communications and conferring degrees, the use of the Chamber of Reflection as part of the initiation ceremony, forming the Chain of Union after the meetings, longer time between degrees and the requirement for candidates to present a paper before the lodge on the lessons of each degree prior to advancement. Traditional Observance lodges are also more likely to use the term Agape rather than Festive Board to describe the meal which follows the meetings. Agape is the ancient Greek word for “love,” and in Freemasonry the term signifies a meal eaten in common by a congregation of Masons in token of Brotherly Love.
A non-profit organization working to promote the study and understanding of traditional Freemasonry called the Masonic Restoration Foundation (MRF) provides education and support for Traditional Observance lodges in recognized jurisdictions. The MRF seeks to foster a network of lodges and individuals of strong spiritual and intellectual character that will help preserve the initiatic tradition within American Freemasonry for future generations.
Members of Traditional Observance lodges believe very strongly that the foremost purpose of Freemasonry is to provide an atmosphere where good men can unite togetherinacommonpursuitofvirtueinservicetoGod. The“work”ofaTraditional Observance lodge is not to review minutes or bills, or plan social or philanthropic activities, but rather to create an atmosphere where the members can learn the lessons of Freemasonry and how they can be inculcated into their daily lives.
This is referred to as Masonic Formation, which is the ever continuing process of spiritual and intellectual formation that all Freemasons must undergo in order to improve themselves in Masonry. This term differs from Masonic Education in that it refers to a process of growth concerned with much more than intellectual faculties. Masonic Formation is the process of fitting the rough ashlar of the imperfect being into the perfect ashlar fit for the divine temple. It is a constant transformation through the use of Masonic symbols, rituals, and teachings.
Everything that occurs in a Traditional Observance lodge is undertaken within this context. Success is viewed as effectively imparting the traditional teachings hidden within Masonic symbols and the spiritual unification of the brethren in such a pursuit. Successful Traditional Observance lodges, though usually maintaining a small membership of less than 50 brothers, retain and engage their members with meaningful human fellowship, stimulating discourse and enriching programs.
Traditional Observance lodges endeavor to make Masonic teachings and philosophy accessible and interesting to the members and do not shy away from dealing with the spiritual issues and questions that many men begin to find more meaningful as they mature. The Traditional Observance lodge seeks to create an ambience where true learning can occur by taking the members inward to the core of their being rather than outward toward the profane elements of life.
A typical meeting of such a lodge may go as follows. The brethren, all properly dressed according to the dress code (at minimum black suit, white shirt and black tie), will arrive at the lodge hall, which will be dimly lit by candlelight, with classical music softly playing in the background. If there is a degree the brethren will maintain complete silence prior to the ceremony. Otherwise they will converse quietly over some light refreshments before entering the lodge room and being properly seated.
Once the lodge officers have ceremonious ly marched in and the lodge formally opened, the Worshipful Master will call for a period of silence, usually lasting several minutes. Following this the Master will call for the scheduled papers and pieces of music tobepresentedinanarrangedorder. Duringthemeetingtherewillbenoreadingofthe minutes or any administrative business of any sort (if allowed in the jurisdiction).
The music that is presented is usually of a contemplative nature and is viewed as an important component of every meeting as it contributes to the overall beauty and solemnity of the atmosphere. The music is also intended to acquaint the brethren with the spectrum of Masonic music composed during the 18th Century and to educate them on the profound history of the classical musical tradition and its relationship to the Masonic Mysteries.
The presentation of papers is viewed as an essential aspect of the life of the lodge and promotes the continued study of Masonic lessons by the brethren. The topic of the papers must be relevant to the interests of the lodge and papers of a strictly historical or biographic al nature are rarely entertained in the lodge room, though they may be presented during the Agape. Topics considered appropriate for the lodge room are symbolism, initiation, ritua l, metaphysics, philosophy and art. These topics and their relationship to Masonry can be found in the context of the major world religions, esoteric movements such as Gnosticism, Hermeticism, Neoplatonism, Rosicrucianism, Kabbalah and many other Western and Eastern traditions.
Before closing the lodge the Worshipful Master will call for another period of silence. Once the lodge has been formally closed the brethren will gather around the altar
for a ceremony known as the Chain of Union, which is meant to symbolize the common commitment to Masonic ideals and connection with other Masons from all over the world. The brethren will then retire to the Agape, which is usually a catered meal with formal toasts and where a discussion of the main paper presented earlier will take place.
In conclusion, Traditional Observance lodges give their members the opportunity to partake in a ritual and sociability that they cannot find anywhere else. Traditional Masonry allows brothers to move their minds from the mundane to the mystical, away from life’s petty particulars to attention on its transcendent meaning. While Traditional Freemasonry may not appeal to everyone, it is proving to be a success in more and more jurisdictions around the United States.

Brethren,
Attached is a link to my latest video and summer message. You’ll find information about recent and upcoming events, Annual Communication, and more. As we move through the season, consider how we as a fraternity seek further light. Since the Summer Solstice ushers in the longest day of the year, our nights are slowly going to get longer. How does your lodge symbolically seek out further light? This year at Annual Communication, Wilkerson College will be conducting a series of panels, courses, and discussions to assist you and your lodge on that journey. These sessions are open to all master masons and will be conducted on an optional third day on the Thursday before the Friday Grand Session. In the coming weeks, there will be more information sent out via email and Grand View.
My brothers, thank you for all the work you put into the Craft. Your hard work and perseverance affects our lodges and communities in a positive way.
Fraternally,
Kevan Frazier, Grand Master |

Brethren,
Brethren,
The Grand Master is seeking five (5) members from each lodge to pledge $450 to the Masonic Home for Children.
It can be a one time pledge of $450.
It can be a pledge of $150 each year for 3 years.
It can also be a pledge of $12.50 per month for 3 years.
Eureka Lodge will get credit for these donations.
If you're interested I would recommend the $150 pledge for 3 years.
Please contact me if you are interested as there is a form you must sign stating your intentions.
Sincerely & fraternally,
Paul Miller, Secretary
Brethren,
On 5 April the Grand Secretary put out an email that contained this bit of information:
"Lastly, please remind your members who previously purchased the Hiram’s Whisper app that they must submit their member number at the following link no later than April 14th in order to have access to the app in the future: <https://www.cognitoforms.com/GrandLodgeOfNorthCarolina/HiramsWhisper>"
I believe this is the 2nd or 3rd notice that was sent from the Grand Lodge regarding the Hiram's Whisper app. I completed this task about 3-4 times and thought I was good. However, today I tried to get into Hiram's Whisper and they wanted me to pay $15.75 for the access. I've contacted the Assistant Grand Secretary to find out what's going on. It could be that since this is only the 16th of April, 2 days after the deadline to signup at the above link, they have yet to add all those to the app so they could retrain their access.
If you did signup for Hiram's Whisper and followed the above instructions please login to your Portal in Grand View and see if you can access it. If you can't please let me know.

Paul Miller, P.M., Secretary
