The Path to Freemasonry
Are you ready to embark on a journey of self-discovery and self-improvement? The path to Masonic membership is both straightforward and profoundly rewarding. Here are some key points to consider as you contemplate joining our esteemed fraternity:
- Masonry Does Not Seek, It Must Be Sought: Freemasonry doesn't actively recruit members. We believe that individuals who seek membership of their own free will are more likely to become strong and valuable Freemasons.
- Have an Idea of What You're Getting Into: Freemasonry is a unique system of morality, veiled in allegory and represented by symbols. It's a journey towards self-improvement, benefiting not only yourself but also your family and community. Connect with a Freemason to explore the intricacies of our fraternity.
- Freemasonry Is Not for Everyone: Becoming a Freemason demands self-reflection, self-discipline, and a commitment to serving others. We uphold high standards and expect members to be productive contributors to society.
- Understand Time and Financial Commitments: Becoming a Master Mason takes time and involves memorization, meetings, and financial obligations. It's crucial that these commitments align with your family, work, and community responsibilities.
- Taking Good Men and Making Them Better: We acknowledge human imperfection and aspire to help good men become even better. While occasional indulgence is acceptable, destructive behavior is not tolerated.
- Petitioning for Membership: If you're ready to join, simply express your interest to a Freemason you know. They will guide you through the process, including recommendations and background checks.
We invite you to take the first step towards becoming a Freemason. Join our esteemed fraternity, where we aim to make you a better man.
The Joining Process
Requirements to Join Freemasonry:
- You must believe in a supreme being.
- You must be joining of your own free will. Don't let your dad, uncle, neighbor, or friend pressure you into joining. Join because you want to.
- You must be a man.
- You must be free-born. The term free-born is a holdover from the days when slavery, indentured servitude, and bonding were common. It means that a man must be his own master, and not be bound to another man. That's not a problem these days, but the language is retained because of its antiquity and a desire to retain the heritage of the fraternity.
- You must be of lawful age. Depending on the Grand Lodge, this can be anywhere from 18 to 25.
- You must come recommended by at least two existing Freemasons from the lodge you're petitioning.
Joining Process:
- Petition: To begin your journey, you'll need to fill out a petition form expressing your interest in joining.
- Background Check: The Lodge will conduct a background check to ensure the requirements are met.
- Interview: You will be assigned to an interview committee that will conduct a short and friendly interview to get to know you better.
- Recommendation: The interview committee will provide the lodge with their recommendation on your membership.
- Lodge Vote: Lodge members will vote on your membership.
- Acceptance: You will either be accepted or rejected based on the vote.
