To begin, I am humbled to have been chosen to lead our beloved lodge through its revitalization journey so that we can continue to serve our home communities of Flint and Davison, MI for another 150+ years. In an age where communication flows through social media, printed newsletters, email and instant messaging, it's essential to utilize every tool at our disposal to bridge distances and foster connections - ensuring that every member, whether active or inactive, feels informed, valued, and a part of our ancient fraternity. I am a big believer in communicating. So fair warning you may receive the some of the same information via text, Email, Electronic and postal mailed newsletters. But rest assured you will know what to expect at the next lodge regular/Stated communication at least a month in advance as well as available travel opportunities up to the publish date of this newsletter. To this end as we begin our new masonic year I am eager to share our plans with ALL of our brothers near and far and keep all lodge members well informed of our progress as we work to reengage with our brethren and fan that burning taper residing within each of us and bring our brothers light, more light and further light in masonry. We will accomplish this through a dedicated focus on the fundamental Masonic Tenets of Brotherly, Relief and Truth. On to setting the craft at work and giving them proper instruction. Brothers, We have much work to be done to lay the ground work for revitalization over the next 3-5 Years. That revitalization begins with the ability to confer degrees professionally and in a manner that makes an impression on the candidates. Therefore, with deep sincerity I am asking for your support in this and earnestly request that each of you re-commit yourself to your obligation to "improve myself in Masonry", through frequent and disciplined study of the ritual as well as active and frequent participation in lodge activities. Whether you currently hold an elected or appointed officer position or have aspirations for leadership and want to join the line of officers we have a fundamental responsibility to initiate, pass and raise prospective candidates in a manner that honors the ancient usages and customs of our craft which includes the memorized recitation of the rituals. This can be done through a daily focus incrementally learn each of the rituals and associated lectures. We are fortunate to have many regular and honorary members who are well versed in ritual. The officers will each be assigned a Past Master/DDI mentor who will be a resource to you for ritual proficiency improvement. They are eager to answer your questions or coach you where you need coaching. However, it starts with you committing yourself to incremental improvement. Further, as a lodge we are fortunate and blessed to have the ability to manage a meaningful and impactful philanthropic program that can continue to make a difference in the lives of our distressed brothers, widows, orphans, and communities members/organizations in need. I look forward to reporting our goals and successes for 2026 in our next issue. Finally, frequent and fun fellowship opportunities will abound over the next year and I want to extended a sincere invitation to each of you to join us. Whether you fancy visiting the world renowned Detroit Masonic Temple, George Washington National Masonic Memorial, enjoying a Patriotic Flag Day picnic with your family, or an evening of Bourbon and Cigars with your masonic brothers, we will have something for everyone and we are just getting started. So please join us lodge renewal first hand. In closing, your opinions and wishes on what how to improve our lodge are are earnestly requested. You should have received either a paper survey or an email asking you to complete the survey electronically. Please do your best to complete than within the next week. I will compile the input and present it back to the lodge and we together will use it to shape our activities over the next 1-3 years. Finally, I again want to thank all of my Lodge Brethren with a special thanks to our honorary members who are always there to lend a hand when asked. I look forward to this next year and continuing to strengthen the bonds of brotherhood within our fraternity. Members of Fellowship Lodge #236... Last night at our regular May meeting, the committee on the future of 236 informally reported that because we are unable to fill the line with the required officers, the recommendation will be to consolidate 236 with Swartz Creek #458. The plan is to present this formal resolution at the June Regular and take the final vote at the September Regular. There is quite a bit of support for this and some opposition. Personally, I think this solution only provides "hospice" for our lodge and Masonry in general. I was shocked when I learned that some 20 years ago we had some 60,000 members in Michigan and today that number is less than 16,000! It appears as if young men are not finding Masonry relevant. Apparently they do not feel that Masonry fills a need for them in today's modern world. I asked for and was granted permission by our Master, to form an Ad Hoc Committee to explore all options to revitalize and reinvigorate our lodge. I hope to learn if and how we can provide relevance for young men while maintaining our Masonic Landmarks. I am seeking members to join this committee!!! Please let me know if you would like to join us. Please send me an email with your name, email address and phone number. Also let me know if you can attend meetings via Zoom. I anticipate some Hybrid and Zoom only meetings. I would like your response no later than Monday (5/12/25) So we can begin this work ASAP. I am hoping that we can have a good start on this by the June regular and conclude with a recommendation at the September Regular. Please email me - jlpreston11@gmail.com - With your thoughts and your agreement to serve on this committee I appreciate your help. Jerry Preston Fellowship #236 L.E.O. 810-348-4777 |

Brothers of Fellowship Lodge #236, As many of you are aware, attendance at regular communications and participation in lodge affairs has been on the decline in recent years. We have no moving line of officers and are unable to put on degrees or memorials ourselves without significant help from other lodges. Additionally, we are losing far more members than we are gaining. To move forward and save our lodge, myself and the majority of the active membership have begun pursuing a consolidation between ourselves and Swartz Creek #458. We feel this course of action is best in order to keep our members and resources without going defunct, going our separate ways, and surrendering our assets to Grand Lodge. We are still discussing the terms of a merger, and will obviously have an official vote on the matter with due notice to the membership. In the meantime, I would like your opinions on other possible courses of action. It has been suggested that the move to Swartz Creek has caused many of the former Davison Lodge members to stop attending. Would these members prefer we move again, perhaps to Davison or Burton? Your opinion matters to this Lodge. Please respond with your preference: should we consolidate with Swartz Creek or another lodge? Move to a new location? Something else? I look forward to hearing from you and moving forward together. Fraternally, Austin Conquest, PM Worshipful Master Fellowship Lodge #236 |
