Brethren, Due to the ongoing snowstorm, which is expected to continue throughout the day, and the anticipated time required for snow cleanup, I am writing to share an important weather-related update. The District Blue Lodge Council has canceled tonight’s Blue Lodge Council Meeting due to weather and travel concerns. In addition, after discussion with our Wardens and our District Deputy, Right Worshipful Brother Studwell, I have decided to cancel tomorrow night’s Entered Apprentice Degree at Brainard Lodge. While the storm itself may have passed, road conditions may not be fully clear in all areas, and safety must remain our top priority. We want to ensure that each candidate’s degree experience is conducted under the best possible conditions and with the focus and care it deserves. Thank you for your understanding as we err on the side of caution to ensure the well-being of our Brethren and candidates. The Entered Apprentice Degree has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 10th. Additional details and reminders will be shared as we get closer to the date. Thank you for your patience and flexibility as we work through these weather-related challenges. Please take care during snow cleanup, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay safe. Fraternally, Jonathan Lamas |

Brethren, I hope this message finds you safe and doing as well as possible as we continue to experience the blizzard affecting our area. Storms like this can be disruptive and stressful, and I hope each of you and your families are staying warm, secure, and able to weather it comfortably. Please take care, avoid unnecessary travel, and look out for one another. Times like these are a reminder of the importance of patience, caution, and brotherly care. If you are aware of a Brother who may need assistance or simply a check-in, I encourage you to reach out. Even a quick call or message can go a long way. Fellowcraft Degree at Coastal Lodge No. 57 Looking back on the past week, I would like to reflect on a very positive evening that I shared with several Brothers from Brainard Lodge at Coastal Lodge. The Fellowcraft Degree at Coastal Lodge No. 57, held last Tuesday evening, was well done and thoroughly enjoyable. It was especially meaningful to see so many Brothers from Brainard Lodge in attendance to support Brother Chad Merriman. Your presence demonstrated strong fraternal support and reinforced the bonds that extend beyond our own Lodge. Thank you to all who took the time to attend and represent Brainard so well. I would also like to thank Worshipful Master Dante Pezzolesi for his courtesies throughout the evening. Blue Lodge Council Meeting Update Due to the ongoing weather conditions, tonight’s Blue Lodge Council Meeting has been canceled. This decision was made with safety in mind. Updates regarding future Council meetings will be shared as they become available. Entered Apprentice Degree Update After discussion with our Wardens, Candidates, and our District Deputy, Right Worshipful Brother Studwell, I have decided to cancel tomorrow night’s Entered Apprentice Degree at Brainard Lodge. While the storm itself is expected to have passed, road conditions may not be fully clear in all areas, and safety must remain our top priority. We also want to ensure that each candidate’s degree experience is conducted under the best possible conditions and with the focus and care it deserves. The Entered Apprentice Degree has been rescheduled for March, and no Stated Communication will occur. Additional details and reminders will be shared as they become available. Upcoming Masonic Services and Calls to Assist Looking ahead to this coming weekend, Brethren are encouraged to attend and support the following services taking place on Saturday, February 28th. Right Worshipful Brother Richard Miller is seeking Brothers to assist with a Masonic Funeral Service taking place at 1:30 p.m. at the Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, located at 13 Beckwith Lane in Old Lyme, CT. Brethren who are able to assist are encouraged to reach out to me or to Right Worshipful Brother Richard Miller directly. Any and all help is appreciated. Later that afternoon, a Memorial Service for Most Worshipful Past Grand Master Edward C. Page will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the Hartog Auditorium at Ashlar Village, located at 74 Cheshire Road in Wallingford, CT. All are welcome to attend, and carpooling is recommended. Birthdays

Many of us dedicate a great deal of time and effort to learning our ritual work. We study it, practice it, and take pride in delivering it properly. That commitment matters, and it speaks to our respect for the Craft and its traditions. But Freemasonry ultimately asks more of us than knowing the work well inside the Lodge room. The obligations we take are not meant to be recited and set aside. They are meant to guide how we live. They should inform how we speak to others, how we handle disagreement, how we carry ourselves in public, and how we treat one another when no titles or aprons are visible. It is easy to uphold our obligations when we are surrounded by Brothers. The real test is how faithfully we live them when we are not. Living our obligations means acting with integrity even when it is inconvenient. It means offering patience when frustration would be easier. It means extending charity, understanding, and fairness, especially when no one is watching. When our daily conduct reflects the principles we profess, Freemasonry becomes something more than ritual. It becomes a quiet but powerful influence for good. When we strive to live our obligations consistently, we strengthen ourselves, we strengthen Brainard Lodge, and we strengthen the reputation of the Craft as a whole. Thank you, as always, for your commitment to Brainard Lodge and to one another. Please stay safe during the storm. I look forward to seeing you all in lodge again soon. Fraternally, Jonathan P. Lamas |

Brothers, Just a reminder that this coming Monday evening, February 23, Somerset – St. James Lodge No. 34 will host the 8th District Blue Lodge Council Meeting. The evening will begin with dinner at 6:00 pm, followed by the meeting at 7:00 pm. Blue Lodge Council meetings offer an excellent opportunity to stay informed on what is happening throughout the District and to take part in meaningful discussion. They provide a forum for sharing ideas, asking questions, offering input, and learning from the efforts and experiences of other Lodges as we work to grow, improve, and strengthen our Craft. Even for those who may simply wish to listen and stay informed, participation is valuable and helps maintain strong connections across the District. Strong representation from Brainard Lodge is important, and I encourage Brothers who are able to attend to do so. Your presence and perspectives help ensure Brainard has a clear and meaningful voice within the District and contribute to shaping the direction we are collectively moving toward. I hope you will consider joining us, and I look forward to seeing many of you on Monday night. Fraternally, Jonathan Lamas |

Brethren, I hope you all had a great weekend and that the week ahead finds you well. As always, I am grateful for the time, effort, and commitment you bring to our Lodge, and for the spirit of Brotherhood that continues to define our work together. The year is off to a strong start, and I look forward to the many opportunities ahead as we continue to grow, learn, and support one another in the months to come. A Special Presentation I would like to begin this week's communication by thanking all who attended our most recent meeting. A special note of appreciation is extended to Right Worshipful Brother Richard Miller for his fascinating and thought-provoking presentation. As we continue our work together, I would like our meetings to remain engaging, informative, and meaningful for all. If you have an idea for a presentation you believe would be of interest to the Lodge, I encourage you to reach out to me. Educational programs, historical topics, and personal areas of expertise help strengthen our Lodge and enhance our overall experience together. I look forward to your suggestions and contributions. Fellowcraft Degree at Coastal Lodge No. 57 Looking ahead, I encourage all who are able to join me this Tuesday evening, February 17th, at Coastal Lodge No. 57 in Stonington as we confer the Fellowcraft Degree upon Brother Chad Merriman. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., with the Degree to follow at 7:30 p.m. Supporting our Brothers as they advance along their Masonic journey is one of our most important responsibilities, and your presence helps make these moments meaningful. Blue Lodge Council Meeting Next Monday Night Brethren are reminded that on Monday, February 23rd, Somerset–St. James Lodge No. 34 in Preston will be hosting the Blue Lodge Council meeting for February. Dinner will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the meeting at 7:00 p.m. This is a valuable opportunity to come together with Brothers from across the District to share ideas and suggestions to help grow and improve our District. I encourage you to attend if you are able. Upcoming Entered Apprentice Degree Then, on Tuesday of next week, February 24th, we will have the privilege of conferring an Entered Apprentice Degree here at our Lodge for two candidates. Dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Degree at 7:30 p.m. This is always a special evening, as we welcome new Brothers into the Craft and take on the responsibility of guiding their first steps in Masonry. I hope you will attend and lend your support. As a reminder, Worshipful Brother Axel Mahlke will be traveling throughout the state this year to visit Lodges and connect with Brothers across Connecticut. He will begin on February 26th with a visit to Hiram Lodge No. 1 in New Haven, which will also be conferring an Entered Apprentice Degree that evening. He is eager to travel with Brainard Brothers. If you are interested in joining him, please let him know so we can coordinate and ensure Brainard is well represented. Building Strong Masons Through Mentorship As we prepare for these degrees and reflect on the responsibilities they place upon us, I would like to share a brief thought on leadership and mentorship. I have been fortunate in my own journey over the years, both in Masonry and in business, to have had many great mentors who were willing to share their knowledge, offer guidance, and lead by example. Strong leaders build others up; they do not break them down. I can't stress this enough. Leadership within our Lodge is not about authority, but about responsibility. It is shown through mentorship, patience, and a willingness to help others grow. When experienced Brothers take the time to guide newer ones, we create an environment where confidence, knowledge, and Brotherhood can flourish. In doing so, we strengthen not only individual Masons, but the Lodge as a whole. That said, we are fortunate this year to have a Mentorship & Ritual Team that is ready and willing to assist both new, and not so new, Brothers as they continue their Masonic journey. If you have any questions about Masonry, or are seeking guidance or support with degree work or other Masonic topics, please do not hesitate to contact me or Brother Michael Cantwell, the head of our Mentorship & Ritual Team. Brothers who are interested in giving back and assisting with mentorship or ritual work are also encouraged to reach out and get involved. This is a meaningful way to support your fellow Brothers while helping to strengthen Brainard Lodge as a whole. Birthdays

Brethren, I hope everyone enjoyed a great Super Bowl Sunday and had a chance to relax and spend time with family and friends. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Bay View Masonic Temple for our Super Bowl 60 Viewing Party with Union Lodge No. 31. It was a terrific night of fellowship, laughter, good food, and friendly rivalry. It was great to see Brothers, families, and friends sharing time together outside of the Lodge room.
Sharpening the Craft I also want to take a moment to highlight the work happening inside the Lodge room. Our recent Entered Apprentice Degree rehearsals have been extremely beneficial, sharpening our ritual work and helping everyone grow in confidence and delivery. It has been especially encouraging to see some of our newer officers stepping forward and showing real promise. Their dedication and preparation speak well for the future of Brainard Lodge. This Week’s Program As for this week's meeting, tomorrow we will gather at 7:30 p.m. for our Stated Communication, where Right Worshipful Brother Richard Miller will deliver a fascinating presentation. I encourage you to attend and take advantage of this opportunity for education, discussion, and fellowship with your Brothers in Lodge. Dinner tomorrow evening, at 6:30 p.m., will feature brats and a side dish, served with rolls and a fresh salad. Special thanks to our Brother Stewards, Stephen Taylor and Dylan Vojick, for their continued dedication in making these meals possible. Their efforts do not go unnoticed, and we are grateful for all they do. That said, I hope you will be able to join us for dinner tomorrow evening before our meeting. As there is a slight chance of snow tomorrow evening, I will be monitoring conditions and will share any updates as needed. In the meantime, please travel only if it feels comfortable for you. Your well-being is always my first concern. Birthdays

Brethren, Today is Groundhog Day, and Punxsutawney Phil has predicted six more weeks of winter. With that in mind, I'm especially grateful for those who were able to attend our recent Stated Communication last Tuesday evening despite the snowy conditions. It was good to spend time together in Lodge and to feel the strong spirit of Brotherhood in the room. For those who were unable to attend, we paused during the evening to honor the memory of Most Worshipful Past Grand Master Edward C. Page through the Draping of the Altar, a solemn and meaningful reminder of the legacy we strive to uphold. An Evening of Masonic History Our program for the evening featured Worshipful Brother Axel Mahlke, Associate Grand Marshal for District 8B, who presented an engaging and thought-provoking talk on the Germanic history of Freemasonry. I again extend my thanks to him for sharing his knowledge and enriching our time together. Worshipful Brother Mahlke will be traveling throughout the state this year to visit Lodges and connect with Brothers across Connecticut. He will begin on February 26 with a visit to Hiram Lodge No. 1 in New Haven, which will also be conferring an Entered Apprentice Degree that evening. He is eager to travel with Brainard Brothers. Brethren, I hope this message finds you well. As we begin the week, I would like to take a moment to thank those who helped make our Installation of Officers such a memorable and successful evening. My sincere thanks to Right Worshipful Brother Jim Moran for serving as our Installing Officer. His guidance and presence added greatly to the dignity of the ceremony, and I am grateful for the care and attention he brought to the work. Thank you as well to our Brother Stewards, Stephen Taylor and Dylan Vojick, along with Junior Deacon Mike Cantwell, for the excellent meal and warm fellowship they provided. Their efforts behind the scenes were very much appreciated and helped set the tone for the evening. I would also like to extend my congratulations to our newly installed officers and thank each of you for your willingness to serve. Your commitment of time and effort is essential to the strength of this Lodge, and I look forward to working alongside you as we continue the work of Brainard Lodge No. 102. In Memoriam
Beyond titles and offices, Most Worshipful Brother Page exemplified the values we are taught to uphold as Masons: steadiness, integrity, and a sincere commitment to the betterment of the Craft. His leadership reflected not only knowledge of our traditions, but a genuine care for the Brethren he served. Moments such as this remind us that our time in the Lodge is part of something far greater than any one year or any one man. We stand on foundations laid by those who came before us, and we are entrusted with carrying that work forward with the same care and purpose. Please keep his family, loved ones, and Brethren in your thoughts and prayers as we honor his memory. A Thought for the Month

Greetings and Happy Holiday Season, Brethren, I hope this message finds you all well. This Tuesday is our Annual Meeting and our only meeting for the month of December. It is also my last Stated Communication as Worshipful Master of Brainard Lodge. I would like to invite you all to attend this meeting. The theme is Holidays in Hawaii. It has nothing to do with the season, but it is my last excuse to wear a Hawaiian shirt in 2025. The dress is Hawaiian-shirt optional "but encouraged"; otherwise, business casual. We will be holding our annual elections, and if all goes as anticipated, the progressive line will not have a Past Master in the officer line. Brother Jon Lamas is poised to take the East and preside over the best degree team in the 8th District. If you did not attend any of the degrees this year, you have missed something truly extraordinary. Our officers have conducted the finest degree work in the 8th District and beyond. We have raised 12 of our own brothers as well as a courtesy Master Mason for Warren Lodge No. 51. This has been an exceptional year for new Masons joining our lodge and experiencing the highest quality degree work. It has been my absolute privilege to preside over these officers, and I will miss holding the gavel as I fade into the sidelines once more. I want to thank all those who supported our outstanding year, and I hope the succeeding line will continue to receive the same support from Brainard brothers and from those who participated from our district and beyond. I want to remind everyone that the 8th District Christmas Party will be this Friday, December 12th, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The party is free and open to anyone, so please stop by and say hello. To any Past Masters, December 29th will be the Actual Past Master’s Degree, hosted by Brainard Lodge. Bro. Jon Lamas, our Senior Warden, should be in attendance—confirmation pending election results. Presiding as Master of this lodge has been the best year of my Masonic career, and I am truly humbled to have served this lodge. Thank you all for your support, and I hope to see you soon. Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas. Fraternally yours, |

Good day Brothers, The height of Summer is upon us. While traditionally Brainard Lodge goes to “Recess” during July and August, I have decided to ride the renewed wave of comradery amongst our brethren and hold Fellowship Nights on the days of our normal stated communications. We will meet the second and fourth Tuesday in the dining hall. Refreshments will be served at 6:30pm and we will depart when the time feels right. The dress will be summer casual and only your presence will be appreciated. We may have some Masonic presentations on the TVs and all philosophical conversations regarding Freemasonry are welcome. We have permission from the Grand Master to conduct business regarding petitions and balloting during our recess. A few of us will open lodge upstairs to read some petitions and assign investigating committees on July 8th, and close immediately after the petitions are read. We will open lodge on the fourth Tuesday in July to ballot on these petitions. If you are interested in attending the ballot on July 22nd, please plan on attending. No other business will be conducted, and we will close lodge immediately after the ballot closes. These candidates will be initiated on September 23rd. Brainard lodge will host Junior Warden’s Night for the 8th District on September 23rd and our own “Big Daddy” Mike Bogden will preside in the East. Please come out and support our district Junior Wardens on this night. If you have not witnessed a Brainard degree this year, you are truly missing out on some outstanding degree work. We are, in my opinion, at the top of quality degree work in the district, and possibly the state. I hope to see you in lodge soon. If your schedule does not allow you to attend the Fellowship Nights, I hope you all enjoy a safe and happy Summer. RWB, Craig E. Pedro |

Greetings Brothers, On January 14th, I had the honor and privilege of being installed as Master of Brainard Lodge 102. The Installing Master was Brainard’s own RWB James Moran, Grand Junior Deacon of the Most Worshipful Grand Lodge of the State of Connecticut, accompanied by my son, WB Andrew Pedro II, District Grand Lecturer, and WB Seth Beebe, my predecessor from the East. I am grateful to the Installing Team for allowing me to experience being installed by such good friends and family. It has been 11 years since I last sat in the Oriental Chair, and, surprisingly, it felt as though it was only yesterday. The current line of officers is one of extremely high caliber, and I look forward to combining our experience and drive for excellence to make 2025 a year to remember. I would like to invite any brother who has been away from the lodge to attend a meeting so we can meet in person. I would love to hear any ideas you may have to improve the lodge or aid in the retention of members. We are entering a time when the fraternity must evolve and implement the younger generation’s ideas to ensure that Freemasonry remains a relevant and cherished institution. Our values are second to none, and although there are differences among generations, there are still plenty of good men who Masonry can make better. My only regret is that I did not discover Freemasonry at a younger age. I earnestly remind all brothers that you are always welcome in your lodge. Please do not feel that your return, after time away, would result in embarrassment. We are all brothers, and we are your second family. A family member is always welcome home. Our next Stated Communication is on January 28th. For the first time, I will combine technology with tradition by presenting my favorite tracing board through a PowerPoint presentation. The selected symbolism will pertain solely to the Entered Apprentice Degree. Please join us and discover why the lithograph titled “Light and Truth” is my favorite single compilation of Masonic symbolism. Our first degree of 2025 will be conducted on February 11th, a Fellow Craft Degree. An open house dinner will be served by our amazing stewards at 6:30 PM, with the degree commencing promptly at 7:30 PM. Please feel free to bring anyone interested in the fraternity to share the meal with us. Thank you all for your time and attention to this message, and I hope to see you on the 28th. Fraternally yours, |
