History of Worthing Lodge No. 141
Worthing Lodge No. 141 was chartered under the authority of the Grand Lodge of South Dakota as Freemasonry expanded across the growing communities of southeastern South Dakota. Organized by a small but dedicated group of Masons, the Lodge was established to serve the spiritual, moral, and charitable needs of the citizens of the Town of Worthing and the surrounding rural area.
From its earliest days, the Lodge stood as a center for fellowship, integrity, and public service. Meetings were first held in modest quarters, but the commitment of the members quickly transformed the Lodge into a stable and respected institution within the community. Through periods of economic challenge, agricultural hardship, war, and social change, the brethren of Worthing Lodge remained steadfast in their dedication to the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.
Throughout the decades, Worthing Lodge No. 141 has played an active role in the life of Worthing and Lincoln County. Its members have supported countless community initiatives, charitable causes, youth programs, and civic improvements. The Lodge has long been known for stepping forward quietly when help was needed most—true to the Masonic belief that the greatest acts of charity are often those done without public recognition.
The Lodge has also been central to preserving Masonic tradition while adapting to the needs of a changing world. Generations of men from farming families, local businesses, public service, and education have all passed through its doors, receiving the degrees of Freemasonry and continuing the unbroken chain of instruction handed down for centuries.
In recent years, Worthing Lodge No. 141 has become especially well known for its community outreach events—most notably Donuts with Santa, a beloved annual tradition that welcomes families from throughout the region and reflects the Lodge’s ongoing commitment to service, fellowship, and family values.
Today, Worthing Lodge No. 141 continues to thrive as an active and respected Masonic body. While faithful to the ancient landmarks of the Craft, the Lodge looks forward with optimism—committed to strengthening its membership, serving its neighbors, and ensuring that the light of Freemasonry continues to shine brightly in Worthing for generations to come.
