The Grand Master is planning on attending and after the meeting we are going to put our working cloths on and help clean MWB Joseph Monfort and MWB William R Davies beloved wife Sarah Jones Davie gravesites. We will also have a very unique piece of Lodge furniture present that will be worth the trip. The information below is an update received today (May 3, 2024) from Pilot Lodge concerning the funeral service scheduled for tomorrow (May 4, 2024).

It looks like there is a high chance of rain tomorrow from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. There is a possibility that the Masonic funeral service will be held at Moody Funeral Services (206 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030). We won't know for sure until tomorrow afternoon during the visitation. Despite the possible change in venue, if you plan on attending the funeral, please arrive at the Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery (6713 Westfield Rd, Westfield, NC 27053) by 1:30 PM so that we can prepare prior to the family arriving. If required, we'd travel to Moody's to perform the Masonic funeral.
If you plan to participate in the funeral rites, please wear a coat & tie (like Rick would've wanted - he did like to dress for any occasion). If possible, please bring your own white gloves and white aprons. After the service, any brothers wishing a refreshment stop, Pilot Lodge No. 493 will be open for your convenience just off Hwy 52 at 689 Key St, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041, at intersection of Key St. and Veterans Dr.

Worshipful and Illustrious Dr. Richard Jackson Smith, Sr., 33° laid down his working tools Saturday, April 27, 2024 when called home by the Grand Architect. There is a graveside service with Masonic Rites for Brother Rick on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery, 6713 Westfield Rd, Westfield, NC 27053. Masons are requested to arrive at the cemetery by 1:30 p.m. in time to prepare prior to the family arriving. You may wish to bring your own white gloves and white aprons. The urn will be present at the graveside. At Bro. Rick’s request, Most Worshipful Mack Sigmon, Worshipful Ray Hall, and Worshipful Joey Transou will share in conferring Masonic Rites for him.
There is a visitation from 12:30 – 1:30 p.m. at Moody Funeral Services at 206 West Pine Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The distance between the funeral home and the cemetery is 12 miles, about a 17-minute drive. At the present time, there is no planned procession from the funeral home to the cemetery. If there is a change in plans, we will alert you during the visitation. Otherwise, we should meet at the cemetery.
After the service, any brothers wishing a refreshment stop, Pilot Lodge No. 493 will be open for your convenience just off Hwy 52 at 689 Key St, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041, at intersection of Key St. and Veterans Dr.

Dr. Richard “Rick” Jackson Smith, Sr., age 77 of Pilot Mountain, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2024, at WhiteStone Masonic and Eastern Star Community in Greensboro. He was born February 17, 1947, in Surry County, to the late Robert Wayne Smith and the late Ruth Jackson Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Monday Smith. Rick is survived by his son, Richard Jackson Smith, Jr.; two sisters; and a grandson. A graveside service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 4, 2024, in the Westfield Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend Gene Sherrill will be officiating. Full Masonic rites will be conducted by the Pilot Mountain Masonic Lodge # 493 A.F. & A. M. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2024, from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy.

It is with sorrow that I notify you that Wilkerson College Lodge and the fraternity has experienced a loss by the death of two Past Masters.
WB Ronald (Ron) Don Ross Sortino, laid down the working tools of life on 04/27/2024. WB Ron served as master of Wilkerson College Lodge 760 in 2006 and was a life member.
WB Richard (Rick) Jackson Smith, laid down the working tools of life on 04/27/2024. WB Rick served as master of Wilkerson College Lodge 760 in 2018.
Details of services for these brethren are currently unknown.
Please remember the families of these brethren as they deal with this loss.

The Stated Communication was canceled this past Saturday (March 9, 2024) because two of our members who also serve as officers were involved in an automobile accident on the way to Grover, NC. WB Ken Wical and WB James Pugsley were riding in the same vehicle when the accident occured. Fortunately, neither brother was injured as a result of the collision. Please continue to remember these brethren as they deal with the actions required to address the damage to the vehicle and other property.
