Welcome to Union of S.O. Lodge No. 3!
Union of Strict Observance Lodge No. 3, Free & Accepted Masons of Michigan, has stood as a pillar of the Craft in Detroit since 1851. Born in the days when our city was still carving its place on the map, the brethren of No. 3 carried forward a tradition of discipline, fellowship, and service that has weathered wars, economic upheavals, and the shifting tides of history.
Our name — Union of Strict Observance — is not a flourish, but a charge. It reminds us that Masonry is not a pastime to be taken lightly, but a solemn trust to be observed faithfully. Within the walls of the Detroit Masonic Temple, where we have met since its dedication in 1926, the Lodge has labored without ceasing to build men of character, strengthen bonds of brotherhood, and serve the community beyond our tiled doors.
The Lodge is open to men of good report, of lawful age, and of faith in a Supreme Being. What we offer is neither privilege nor pretense, but an opportunity: to join in a centuries-old chain of brethren bound by honor, integrity, and the pursuit of Light.
Union of Strict Observance Lodge No. 3 is more than a number on a charter. It is a living tradition, written in the names of Past Masters, in the memory of those who gave the last full measure of devotion on the battlefield, and in the continuing work of today’s brethren. To enter our lodge room is to step into that current — a stream of brotherhood that flows unbroken from our founding to the present day.
