S Ward Lodge, named after Samuel Ward, the founder of Marine City, has a rich history dating back to 1854. Samuel Ward, along with other Masons in the area, established the lodge to serve the growing community of Marine City. At that time, the nearest Masonic lodge was in St. Clair, and the long, bumpy horse and buggy ride made it necessary to have a lodge closer to home. Thus, S Ward Lodge No. 62 was chartered by the Grand Lodge of Michigan and named after its first Worshipful Master, Samuel Ward.

Today, 171 years later, the family tradition continues with Kevin Ward II, the great-great-nephew of Samuel Ward, serving as the Worshipful Master of the lodge. He follows in the footsteps of many community leaders who have governed the lodge over the years.
