Welcome to Phalanx Lodge No. 31!

In accordance with a regimental warrant issued to the Fourth North Carolina contingent of the Continental Army by the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania for the formation of Lodge No. 20. Phalanx Lodge was initially established on October 4th, 1779. To defend Charleston, South Carolina, this lodge and other North Carolina regiments were transferred there in 1780. They became prisoners of war on May12th, 1780.

Pennsylvania’s military lodge warrants were canceled in 1784. In 1787, Lodge No. 20 received a charter as Phalanx Lodge No. 7, from the Grand Lodge of South Carolina.

The lodge moved to Charlotte and received its charter from the North Carolina Grand Lodge on December 2nd, 1797, as Phalanx Lodge No. 31 Ancient Free and Accepted Masons.

Our lodge holds the distinction of being the parent lodge of all Blue Lodges and affiliated bodies in Charlotte and Mecklenburg County, and is unique in having been chartered by three states, and being only one out thousands of lodges around the world with the name PHALANX.
