Starting with the June 2026 Stated Communication, Mobridge Lodge No. 164 A.F. & A.M. will now be pre-posting our Meeting Minutes and Treasurer Reports in the secure member's only area of Grand View. These documents will be available for preview by members prior to the actual Communication, so that time can be saved by waiving reading of these documents. In order to view these documents, members are required to have an active South Dakota Masonic Grand View account, of which notification was given to the Brethren in 2023 following transition to Grand View from the former system.

Grand View is more than the main communication system for Masons in South Dakota. Grand View is now also the required way to register and pay for Grand Lodge events, such as the upcoming 152nd Annual Communication of the Grand Lodge A.F. & A.M. of South Dakota in Oacoma, SD. It also contains all sorts of resources for Masons and Lodge officers. You can also pay your Lodge dues through Grand View.

Mobridge Lodge No. 164 A.F. & A.M. needs a Mason to be the driver for our parade entry for the Mobridge Celebration Parade on Thursday, July 3, 2025! Some members are going to be in the Yelduz Mobridge Scooters Unit parade entry, so we need another member to drive the Masonic entry. MOBRIDGE SHRINERS INFLATABLES KIDS FUN DAY EVENT!

The Yelduz Mobridge Shrine Club will host an Inflatables Kids Fun Day Event on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at Scherr Howe Event Center in Mobridge!

From 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM there will be wall-to-wall inflatables for kids of all ages! Inflatables may include bouncy houses, slides, obstacle courses, throwing games, and much more! Wristbands for participating kids & adults will be sold at the door for just $15 each and will allow unlimited all-day inflatables access!

Observing/supervising adults get in FREE! Adult supervision is required for all kids under age 12.

Concessions will be available on-site. This event is fun for the whole family, so bring your kids to enjoy some food and have fun!

NOTICE: Due to the Mobridge area being in an EXTREME COLD WARNING and travel outside not being recommended, the monthly Stated Communication of Mobridge Lodge 164 A.F. & A.M. that had been already postponed by one week until tonight, Monday, February 17, 2025, at 7:00 PM, HAS NOW BEEN CANCELED. The March Stated Communication of Mobridge Lodge No. 164 A.F. & A.M. is scheduled for Monday, March 10, 2025, at 7:00 PM.

Accessible ramp entry is available on the north side of the building on 6th Street. This event is free will donation. Proceeds benefit the Mobridge Shriners & Masons and are not tax deductible. Gregory Dane Hanson of Pollock, South Dakota

October 5, 1987 - November 2, 2024

Funeral services for Gregory Hanson of Pollock will be at 2 PM, Friday, November 8, 2024, at Pollock Lutheran Church. The burial will be the Spring Creek Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM Thursday with a prayer service at 7 PM at Kesling Funeral Home.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory Dane Hanson, aged 37, on November 2, 2024. A beloved son, brother, and devoted uncle, Greg left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His warmth, humor, and generous spirit will forever remain in our hearts.

Gregory was born on October 5, 1987 to Wayne and Nancy (Ross) Hanson of Pollock, S.D., at the Mobridge Regional Hospital. Greg was welcomed to the family by an older sister, Paige, and later the family was completed by younger brother, Keith. Greg was raised in Pollock, was baptized, confirmed, and attended the Pollock Lutheran Church, and graduated from Pollock High School. It was in this community where Greg developed a deep love for family, friends, and community.

While in high school, Greg was very involved in sports, drama, and music. He played football for the Campbell County Express, basketball for Pollock Bulldogs. He participated in one-act plays, musicals, and anything dramatic. His passion was for music. Anyone who knew Greg, knew of his love of singing, music, and playing air-drums or air-guitar. He had a steady beat in his head always and was usually humming or singing some song. In high school he was a caring and inclusive friend and classmate. He spoke bluntly and to the point, but always had his heart in the right place.

After high school Greg attended Augustana University for four years in Sioux Falls, S.D. where he studied theater. He met many friends while in Sioux Falls and those friends were cherished.

Greg moved back to the Pollock area in 2010 where he lived the rest of his life. He worked for many years at Dairy Concepts in Pollock before starting work at One World and at Payless Foods in Mobridge in the meat department. Gregory joined the Masonic Temple and was raised as a Master Mason on September 30, 2019. He was a very proud member of the organization and joined the Shriners Canters, the singing group. As a Mason, he dedicated himself to the principles of brotherhood, charity and was eager to support his community and fellow members. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church while he lived in the Mobridge area and was a member of the church choir and for a while church president and Luther League advisor.

Greg was uncle to Clayton, Madison, Bryce, and Pierce. Uncle Greg was more than an uncle- he was a friend, mentor, hero, and teacher. He filled their lives with joy and laughter, whether by cheering them on from the sidelines of his niece’s basketball games, attending their concerts and special events, teaching them to throw a mean spiral football, playing games at every family supper, sharing stories, and teasing them. Greg was extremely proud of each of them and loved them deeply. They often fought over who was “Uncle Greg’s favorite.” He was, and always will be their biggest fan.

A passionate sport enthusiast, Greg had an unbreakable loyalty to the Denver Broncos, as much as his sister tried to break him of it. He was also a loyal fan of the Chicago White Sox, Colorado Avalanche, and Notre Dame football. His knowledge of the games and enthusiasm for sports was unmatched.

In addition to sports Greg had an immense love for music. Music was a lifelong passion that he generously shared with everyone around him. He had the unique ability to find the perfect song for any moment, and could recognize almost any song, from gospel to rap to country. He loved it all. His voice was a pure tenor and he shared his gift with everyone he could. His favorite band was Green Day, who earlier this year he finally got to see in concert.

Beyond sports and music, Greg’s real gift was his heart and love of family. His love of family and friends was reflected daily. His compassion, humor, and dedication made the person everyone could rely on. Quick to lend a hand or share a laugh, he made every gathering brighter. He was a peace maker, a quiet leader.

While his journey may have ended too soon, Greg left a profound mark on everyone who had the privilege to know him. He taught us to live life fully, celebrate the little moments, and hold tightly to those we love. He will be deeply missed, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his parents, siblings, niece and nephews, extended family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Greg passed peacefully after a year long battle with colorectal cancer which he faced with courage, grace, and bravery. He faced each day head on with unbreakable will and inspired everyone around him with his courage and positivity even in the face of unthinkable challenges.

Gregory Dane Hanson is survived by his parents, Wayne and Nancy (Ross) Hanson of Pollock; siblings Paige (PJ) Meyer of Mobridge and Keith Hanson of Minneapolis; nephews and niece, Clayton Ross of Pollock, Madison Ross, Bryce Meyer, and Pierce Meyer all of Mobridge; aunts and uncles, Kathy (Ross) Heffernan of Wecota, SD; Gunnar Ross of Sioux City, IA; Martha (Ross) Good of Avoca, IA; Janette Hanson and Don Dittes of Appleton, MN; Steve Hanson and Mary Zuelke of Mankato, MN ; John Hanson of Cape Coral, FL; numerous cousins and extended family and friends that became family including the Geigle and Larson families.

Preceding Gregory in death are his grandparents, Gordon and Betty (Olson) Hanson, Clayton and Jacquetta (Edwards) Ross; great-grandmother, Edris (Grant) Edwards; uncles, Harold Hanson, Steve Heffernan, Mark Good; great uncles, Bob Ross, Jake Edwards.

Brothers,

As we progressed through the 2023-2024 Masonic year, attendance to monthly Lodge Communications had dropped off considerably. At the last several meetings, we did not have enough attendees to even perform the normal ritual work for opening and closing the Lodge. This is unacceptable. As Master Masons, our obligation binds us to our Lodge, and requires us to obey the signs and summons of the Worshipful Master, if within the length of our cable-tow. This includes attendance and participation in Lodge Communications on a regular basis. While I understand we all have individual lives and things we wish to do, dedication to our Lodge and Craft of Masonry must be kept square and level with our lives. As Brethren, we have an obligation to support each other and our Lodge.

I understand there is history in our Lodge before my time that may have left Brothers with hard feelings. It is time to set those aside and rededicate ourselves to the service of our Brothers and the community as our obligations require of us. We can be better men by saying to ourselves that it is time to let the past be in the past and to move forward with optimism and unity. Let us look to the future with a renewed sense of duty to our Lodge and Brothers regardless of what has happened in the past.

In speaking with some Brethren, I have heard comments that they don’t want to attend because they may not remember all the correct ritual work and they may make mistakes. Well, Brothers, that is no reason to not attend! Even your Worshipful Master needs help remembering all the correct lines and keeping everything straight. I would rather have all my Brothers attend Lodge, make mistakes, and use a script book if needed, which is now officially allowed by out Grand Lodge. We will work our way through the mix ups and missed lines, just as we do in life, working at it and improving ourselves bit by bit with the help of our fellow Brethren.

As your Worshipful Master, I am calling all Brethren to step up and return to attending Lodge Communication on a monthly basis, when able. Reengage with your Brother Masons and remember why it was you took the obligations in the first place. Look to our Lodge as a refuge of stability and peace in the rocky world of today where you always know each man is equal, respected and valued. Look to your Brothers for support and encouragement in your life. Look to your obligations for direction when it is in question.

As Masons, we have a bond with our Brothers past, present and future. From Worshipful Brother Hiram Abiff to Brothers not yet born, we are all men of the compass, level, plumb & square.
