Brother David Leon Allie, 33 With deep respect and fraternal sorrow, we record the passing of Brother David Leon Allie, a devoted Mason, Scottish Rite leader, Noble of the Mystic Shrine, and retired United States Air Force Master Sergeant (E‑7). Brother Allie laid down his working tools on March 13, 2026, in Marquette, Michigan. Born on October 29, 1931, in Buffalo, New York, Brother Allie lived a life marked by service, duty, and unwavering commitment to his fellow man. His Masonic journey began when he was Raised to the Sublime Degree of Master Mason on April 30, 1963, a moment that set the course for more than six decades of faithful service to the Craft. The very next day, on May 1, 1963, he continued his journey in the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, where he quickly distinguished himself as a leader, mentor, and ritualist of exceptional dedication. Brother Allie served the Scottish Rite with honor in several significant capacities: Sovereign Prince (1980–1982) Thrice Potent Master (1982–1984) Commander‑in‑Chief (1990–1992) His exemplary service was recognized at the highest level when he was Coronetted a 33° Inspector General Honorary on September 27, 1988, as a member of the 167th Reunion Class. Among his Scottish Rite brethren, Brother Allie was fondly remembered as “the best Lincoln in the old 26th Degree,” delivering the role with dignity, emotion, and a deep understanding of its meaning. He was always willing to step in wherever needed during Reunions—never seeking recognition, always ready to serve. Brother Allie also became a Noble of the Ahmed Shrine on August 10, 1963, where he embodied the spirit of “Having Fun and Helping Kids.” He was known across the Upper Peninsula as an unofficial ambassador for both the Shrine and the Scottish Rite, greeting visiting Nobles and dignitaries with warmth, hospitality, and genuine brotherhood. His presence made others feel welcome, valued, and at home. His military service as a retired U.S. Air Force E‑7 reflected the same discipline, integrity, and devotion to duty that he carried into his Masonic life. Whether in uniform, in the Lodge room, or among his Shrine brothers, Brother Allie led by example. Throughout his long and honorable life, Brother David Leon Allie exemplified the principles of Freemasonry—Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. His legacy of leadership, service, and quiet strength will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. We commend his spirit to the mercy of the Grand Architect of the Universe, trusting that he has been welcomed into that House not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. https://www.fassbenderswansonhansen.com/obituaries/David-Leon-Allie?obId=47549946 Farewell, Brother. Your labor is complete. May you rest in eternal peace. |

| Hello brethren, An important part of Masonry that is often forgotten or ignored is the education. It's arguably the 2nd most important tenant behind helping a distressed brother, widow or orphan. Brother Rob Linn from Bethel Lodge in Soo, MI is an excellent writer. I recommend you check out more of his writings. In the meantime, please take the time to read this article. It strikes too close to home. Before your read it, I want to preface it with, you are a brother, I care about you (even if I don't know you), and if you need support in anyway, there is a brotherhood that you are a part of that is here to help. I hope to see you soon. https://open.substack.com/pub/squarethoughts/p/the-grandpa-joe-problem?r=6ks0lt&utm_medium=ios Fraternally, and in the sunshine of the Shrine, Barrett Engle, PM Ahmed Shrine Potentate 2026 Marquette Lodge 101 Treasurer |

MARQUETTE, MI - Michael Ty Orhanen, DDS, age 74, entered eternal life Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Mill Creek Assisted Living Facility. Born August 19, 1950 in Marquette, the son of Taisto and Miriam (Anttila) Orhanen, Michael was raised in Manistique and graduated from Manistique High School in 1968. He went on to attend Northern Michigan University, and after three years, was accepted early into the University of Michigan’s School of Dentistry. Also he completed his Bachelor’s Degree at NMU over two summers while studying dentistry, and earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Michigan in 1975. Michael’s dental career was as dynamic and dedicated as he was. He began working in a dental clinic in Switzerland for a year, followed by a year of practice in Ludington, Michigan. He eventually settled in Marquette, where he established his own dental practice and served the community for 38 years. Michael was passionate about giving back. He traveled the world, not only for the love of adventure, but also as part of a volunteer organization that provided free dental care in South America and Africa. At home, he found joy in working with flowers, sunbathing on his decks, and spending time at his lake house, pontooning and gardening among his favorite ways to relax. A talented musician, Michael was a longtime member of the Blue Notes Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marquette City Band, and the Negaunee City Band, dedicating over 30 years to performing and sharing music with his community. Michael will be remembered for his perfectionism, persistence, and generosity. He was fun-loving, friendly, social, and never one to accept failure, traits that made him loved by so many. In addition he was a member of the Mason organization which supports Shriner's Children’s Hospital. He is survived by his sister, Susan (Robert) Hewitt of Marquette; his brother, Jon (Binky) Orhanen of Gladstone; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Peter Orhanen. The family will receive relatives and friends at Messiah Lutheran Church on Wednesday, April 23, beginning at 3:00 pm until the time of service at 4:00 pm. A masonic service will take place at 4:00 pm followed by a church service with Pastor Molly Hunter officiating. A reception will follow at American Legion Post 44. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice. Fassbender Swanson Hansen Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family where condolences may be expressed online at https://www.fassbenderswansonhansen.com/obituaries/Michael-Ty-Orhanen-DDS?obId=42064127 We hope you can join us for the service and be there for our dearly departed brother.
