On behalf of Master-elect Erik Starksen and the other officers of AL5, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all. The Master-elect is looking for a couple of good souls to fill out the last 2 offices for 2025: - The Tyler sets up the Lodge before meetings and guards the door armed with his sword. It pays $500 for the year. - The Senior Steward, along with the Junior Steward assists the Junior Warden to provide the Lodge with refreshment (i.e. meals) before meetings and ensures candidates for degrees are properly prepared. In our Lodge, the Senior Steward is normally considered part of the progressive line and normally is selected to continue onto the Junior Deacon office the following year. Brothers, please help your Lodge and be an active participant by volunteering for one of these positions. Please contact Erik at goodsushi@gmail.com for more information or to volunteer. Thanks, Brothers. Fraternally yours, Shawn Hunter, Secretary |

Brethren: The Lodge officers are proposing a by-law change. It is shown below. The proposed change is being communicated now to give you time to study and prepare questions and comments. We plan to hold the initial discussion at the Annual meeting on December 12. As most of you know, changing bylaws is a long, difficult process that starts with discussion and an initial vote. After a favorable initial vote, the Grand Lodge must approve, formal notification given to all members, and a final meeting and vote. Please come to the annual meeting for the initial discussion and initial vote. - Shawn Hunter, Sec. ========================================= Ancient Landmark Lodge #5 By-laws Amendment Proposal – 10/31/2024 Whereas Lodge expenses continue to increase year after year, and whereas the Lodge continues to balance the budget by drawing down its investment fund, and whereas the current By-laws fix the dues amount, and whereas the Lodge desires the flexibility to annually adjust the dues based on market conditions without requiring a cumbersome By-law change; Therefore the following by-law amendment is proposed: Under ARTICLE V – FINANCES: Replace Section 2 in its entirety. Existing wording is: Section 2. The dues of this Lodge shall be Seventy ($70.00) Dollars plus the Grand Lodge per capita tax (now $40.00) per year for each member, payable in advance and a proportional amount for an unexpired part of the Lodge year. Proposed new wording is: Section 2. The total individual dues of this Lodge, including Grand Lodge per capita, shall be set each year at the annual Stated Meeting in December with a motion requiring a 2/3 vote of members present to pass. The amount set at that meeting will be the amount that is assessed to each member in the fall of the following year. For example, if the Lodge sets the amount to be $150 at the 2025 Annual Meeting, the $150 assessment will be made in the fall of 2026 and will be the amount of the 2027 dues. In the event no dues motion can pass the 2/3 vote threshold after multiple rounds of voting, the presiding Master will declare a deadlock and the dues will remain the same as the previous year. The amount of the 2025 dues is $140. Dues for each year are payable in advance. |
Brethren:
I sincerely hope your fall is going well and you are all safe and secure. AL5 has many exciting events and activities that need to be on your calendar.
The first November event was the annual Game marathon hosted by WB Jeremy at Plato this past weekend. The 25-hour gaming marathon had dozens of attendees, food, fun, games, and raise well over $2,000 for Gillette Children's Hospital. If you couldn't make it, we are still taking donations.
The November Stated Meeting will be on 11/14. There are lots of petitions to read and we will start discussing plans and budgets for 2025. RSVP on the website.
We are putting on a second Master Mason degree on Saturday, 12/7 at 9:00 a.m. (donuts at 8:00). Please plan to join us for this great degree and cheer on on newest Master Masons!

Brother Nelson has asked for our help in helping The Alley Shoppe that is asking for help for kids 8-11 years old in their community.
We will have a large donation box set up right outside of the Lodge office and if you bring a new, unwrapped toy you won’t have to pay for that evening’s meal. Below are ideas/suggestions from the Alley Shoppe. If you donate to this cause at the October Stated Meeting, you will not be charged for dinner that night. THANKS!!!!
Here are some ideas for the gift drive recommended to keep the gifts under $20.
Ideas for 8-11 year olds:
Craft kits, jewelry making kits, art supplies, paint by number, science kits, soccer balls, basketballs, Tumble cars, model building kits
Games such as Jenga, Yahtzee, Spot it,
For the older kids:
$ 10.00 gift cards to a fast food restaurant or coffee shop. McDonalds, Taco Bell, Burger King, Starbucks etc. We put the gift cards in a mug with hot chocolate and some candy. We will add a fleece blanket with the mug/gift card as well. If your group wants to donate mugs they could also do that. Some people have liked to create the whole mug gift. Either way is fine with us.
They do take checks. They should be made out to Alley Shoppe.

Brethren,
Our Brothers at St. Paul 3 would enjoy as many of us staying for their dinner after their meal and even offered to allow any of us who attend to have a complimentary meal. Rather than accepting their gracious offer, I will allow Brothers who attend their meeting and enjoy their meal to submit their receipt and be reimbursed for the expense. You may register at this link https://saintpaullodgenumberthree.wildapricot.org/event-5220445
Regarding our Ladies Brunch for May 20th, I am going to cancel this event due to not having enough participants. I will look for a future event we can have and bring our spouses/significant others to.
Sincerely,
Eric

As you know, AL5 adopted a new bylaw and policy in 2022 which created the "Masters Endowment Fund" to provide donations to a charity selected by the Lodge each year. For 2022, the charity selected was 2nd Harvest Heartland. This great charity provides food to needy families throughout the area.
I am pleased to report that the Lodge and Lodge Brothers combined to donate over $14,000. This amount was matched by MN Masonic Charities so the grand total donated to 2nd Harvest was over $28,000 !!
On behalf of the Master and all the AL5 officers, THANK YOU, my Brothers. This is awesome result for our very first year implementing the Masters Endowment. We should all be very proud of our Craft and AL5.

As you may know, the Lodge elected to designate Second Harvest Heartland as our 2022 charity. Per our newly-adopted policy, the Lodge will match up to $9,300 of member donations to this charity. Please open your hearts and wallets and donate generously in order to maximize our Lodge match. We are off to a good start, closing in on $1,000 in member donations already! THANK YOU.
This message is meant to emphasize that although you can send a check directly to the Lodge, it is NOT necessary. If you would prefer, you can donate DIRECTLY to 2nd Harvest through a donor-advised fund, IRA, a check, or whatever. We just ask that you provide some kind of proof-of-donation to the Lodge so we can track your donation and match it per our policy. Proof-of-donation can be a Grant letter (e.g. from a donor-advised fund), a cancelled check, a receipt from 2nd Harvest, etc. Just mail the document to the Lodge office or (better yet) send it to secretary@ancientlandmark5.com
If you have questions, please call me at 612-930-3432.

Brethren:
The Lodge is proposing a Bylaws change (stated below). It has been read in Lodge twice and has the approval of the Grand Lodge. The final step is for our Lodge to formally ratify the change with a 2/3 vote of members present at the April Stated Meeting. This is your formal notification of that meeting. Brothers without email addresses will be notified via US mail. If you have questions, please contact me at secretary@ancientlandmark5.com

We have lost contact with one of our members, Brother Michael DeBough. We have no email address, the phone number we have has been disconnected and mailings to the several postal addresses we have on file have all been returned. I am hopeful that one of you Brothers can provide me contact information so I can get ahold of our missing Brother. If you have any information, please send to me at secretary@ancientlandmark5.com.
Thanks!

Just a final reminder that we will be gathering for cards and games on 2/24 down at Plato. Significant others, friends, and prospects are all welcome! We will kick off at 6:00 p.m. and wind up around 8:30. We will have make-your-own sandwiches with chips, pop, and cookies. A free-will donation wil be taken to help defray costs.
Brethren:
As always, I sincerely hope you are all staying safe, warm, and Covid-free. First, THANK YOU to the many Brothers who have heeded my call and paid their outstanding dues balance. HOWEVER, we still have WAY too many members who are behind and need to pay their dues. Roughly HALF of our members owe past dues! Many members owe for multiple years. A small number of Brothers actually owe for 3 years! I am sure you all agree that this is unacceptable and certainly unsustainable.
Brothers, please, please, PLEASE log onto Grandview, check your balance, and send in a check (or pay with PayPal on Grandview). If you don't know how to get into Grandview, please call me. If you want me to simply tell you your outstanding balance, please call me. If you have special financial circumstances, please call me. If you just want to talk, please call me! :-)
The Lodge only works if we all do our part and keep current with dues. Please help us get caught up and current.
Thank you, my Brothers. Stay safe.

Shawn Hunter, Secretary, AL5. secretary@ancientlandmark5.com. (612)-930-3432
