| Greetings Brothers, We had a member ask a great question. Can we donate to the lodge online? More specifically to give to specific cause such as the Byers Pantry Boost. Yes! If you go to My Portal on Grand View and scroll down you will find the grey box titled Actions. Upon clicking on this is an option to Donate to Lodge. For the Byers Boost specifically if you select Good Works and Outreach and then in the comments put Byers Pantry Boost we can track where that goes specifically. Make sure to add that comment though. Thank You for that question and thank you for the tremendous support for this cause! |

| An update to below as we cancelled our January meeting we will move the collection and ultimately distribution to our February Stated Experience. If you cannot attend that or in the interim would like to drop off your collected items you can bring them to the EA Degree on Jan 15 (highly recommended) or bring them whenever and set them on the Minnehaha desk in the Secretary's room. Thank You!! At our Stated Experience in November Senior Warden James Byers proposed an idea to the lodge that hits on the Grand Master's objectives to help schools and to feed South Dakota. Brother Byers is an educator at the Harrisburg Middle School. His coworker the school counselor mentioned how she keeps a pantry of snacks and small meals in the counselor's office to be ready for those students that need extra food or snacks during the day. Often kids are not able to start the day with a full breakfast or they are limited on their school lunch so the counselor is able to identify those that need a boost. Introducing the Byers Boost! We would like everyone to shop for a list of items the counselor has identified and bring those items to our Stated Experience Jan 1. Please find the link below to a signup sheet with the items to shop for. We want to provide a variety for the counselor so if you can provide something that doesn't have a signup or fewer in quantity of the Brother bringing it. We of course are looking for pre-packaged items that can be stored in the counselor's pantry. Our goal is to overload the pantry so much that the counselor will have to share the haul with other schools! Challenge issued ;) Our Stated Experience for January is live to RSVP on Grand View. The date is Jan 1. So far we are track for the meeting but we really need everyone to RSVP to make sure we will have a full room. Click Here to RSVP |

| Brothers, At our December 4, 2025 Stated Meeting the education below was given by Senior Warden James Byers. Several Brothers asked that this be shared and distributed among the membership. Also attached is the PDF version if you'd like to forward this on. Enjoy! The Great Light in Masonry.pdf The Great Light in Masonry Good evening brothers, Well here we are on this wonderful Dec evening with yet again another opportunity to come together as masons and continue to build on our journey together. So tonight I want to touch on a subject that is important to all masons everywhere but sometimes confusing. The topic of faith. We as Masons know that in our family of friends and brothers there are men of all faiths united in the common and sworn oath of a belief in a Supreme Architect of all the universe. (As WB George mentioned last month it is a point of pride for him and for M5) And our main point of focus on faith is the Holy Book on the altar but it is important that we know what this single book actually represents. The Holy Bible, the inestimable gift of God to man, sits upon the Altar of every properly Tyled Masonic Lodge. (Since the early 1700s)Within it is the specific language in which our Ritual has been performed for hundreds of years, that is the language of the King James Bible. While all of the morals, virtues, values, responsibilities, and characteristics of our collective Faiths are contained within this codex(A fancy word for book), it is not placed there to induce any Brother to question their own Faith or to support one over another as a means of supplanting of theirs. It is a symbol. It is a physical representation of the recorded words of God to man when he instructed us in the proper moral and virtuous manner in which we should conduct our lives, serving as a passport to gain admission to the Celestial Lodge above. If we think about this for a minute the book on our altar today as modern/speculative Masons is not even close to the book our ancient craftsmen would have taken their oaths on, it is not even written in the same language. This book or scroll would have been very different indeed. After the English Civil War, when Jews were allowed back into society, they were warmly greeted by the Masons. While they took their Obligation on their own holy book, but understood that the Bible on the altar was supposed to be a symbol of THEIR holy book, to them. So here is where we dive in as masons: at the moment of our obligations we should and must ensure that each good man entering into our sacred band of faithful craftsmen should be given the opportunity to swear his oath on that sacred book that will by definition hold him to his word. We are not here to just let anyone in on their word alone but instead demand of you that you hold yourself to a higher authority. Now after the moment of obligation and you are brought to light with your hand on your volume of sacred law, the one that holds you to the highest standard as a man is in your hand to remind you of your vow. Once that moment is done The Masonic altar goes back to a single book, that when open is there to represent that holy book to you, why is it that way you ask well its simple we are not here to promote worship this is not a church we use one book that all masonic ritual is based on for the simple purpose of providing a guide to the virtues and morality to which a mason is bound and sworn to live and act by. You're not as a blue lodge mason taking an oath to worship the holy bible above all, you're swearing to follow the tenets of Freemasonry and to keep it secrets. It would be impossible for us to even attempt to place every known volume of sacred law on the altar of freemasonry, just soak this in for a minute: There are over 450 different English prints of the bible, 1 for the Jewish religion, 965 variants to the Quran, 4 different versions of Vedas, 3 different buddhist texts. All of these are right, all correct, all Holy to the man that believes in them. I think you can get the point here. It just is not possible to place them all and to try to pick and choose would be wrong, it is not for us as Masons to say that all holy texts are equal or that one is more or less. The fact is that each man's personal faith is to that man the one true and correct path to his spiritual development. There would be no possible way that a man of one faith would place the holy book of another religion on the altar in that man's holy place. But thankfully we are not at church, but we are still men of faith and we as Masons use as an example Psalm 133, Amos7, and Ecclesiastes 12 the pages that are open during our Masonic rituals are passages that men of any faith can fundamentally agree with. So now here comes the main point. LODGE IS NOT A PLACE OF WORSHIP!!! However!!! We as Masons are in my opinion the most excellent versions of men of faith that truly exist. In the not so distant past in areas where christianity was not just the main religion but the only allowed religion progressive and defiantly bold Masons used the Great Light in Masonry to unite all men of faith under a single representative book. We take the practice of Faith to a level that most people will never understand we join together as men of varied and different Religions/ faiths we draw on ancient morals and values outlined in our rituals and symbols and allegories, to walk hand in hand together toward one destination the Celestial Lodge above where all good and true Masons hope to be admitted and received. Within the lodge we are not to discuss religion or politics for these things are specific to each man. We are however sworn and obligated to discuss and teach and learn together to be the best possible version of a man and mason we can be, using the rituals and useful maxims laid out by our ancient craftsmen for the purpose of setting us apart from the world around us, not by making us greater than others, but by transforming us into beacons of light for those around us to follow and use to improve themselves. This is in my opinion is the true way in which a Mason can best serve their communities. We must learn to live Masonry, not just show up and be a lodge night mason. Brothers the journey we are on as Masons is not short or easy one we have daily struggles in our own lives, and even in lodge sometimes that will make this difficult but that's ok. I see this as just the work of the craftsman striking with force on the chisel with the setting maul shaping that stone for the builders use, we need to break a sweat! Really work the stone till it is a PERFECT Ashlar and then place that one and help work on the next one because it will take many stones all placed together perfectly, with even and accurate stress, bound in faithful placement, by we craftsmen working without error because we never stop striving to be that perfect part of the celestial lodge above. So work hard my brothers stay true to your faith and stay true to the tenets of the fraternity and let us together be the LIGHT. James Byers Senior Warden - Minnehaha Lodge No. 5 Lodge Education Officer *If you would like more Education please attend our Stated Experience each month to enjoy these presentations live!* Sometimes audio files are in the minutes, sometimes summaries. The best experience is live in the lodge room |

This is one of those moments when our Brotherhood’s strength truly shines through. The Poe family could use our help, whether it’s a few hours of your time, your practical skills, or a financial contribution. They currently need support primarily with meals and transportation to and from appointments since Allen can't drive, and Krystal is going to be pretty exhausted from her stay in the hospital. Brother Jeff Landborg has already stepped up to handle snow removal, but he would certainly welcome a helping hand if anyone can assist with a heavy snowfall. Any way you can share your time, lend your talent, or offer a bit of financial help will make a real difference for this family that has given so much of themselves to others. You can sign up to provide a lunch, dinner or gift card for meals to be delivered here: https://www.giveinkind.com/inkinds/W0T0E2S Remember, Allen is gluten-sensitive, so GLUTEN-FREE meals are best for him. Krystal and his mother don't have any dietary restrictions. There are some websites with some possible recipes listed at the site above. |

I know that most of us are grateful that we don't suffer from drug addiction and mental health issues like most that stay in shelters deal with. Additionally, some individuals experience a string of bad luck, so many of us are living paycheck to paycheck. Having those SNAP benefits is a lifeline for many people in these situations. I am bringing my food truck to the Bishop Dudley House (101 N Indiana Ave, Sioux Falls) this Sunday, November 2nd, to serve a meal to those people who have lost their benefits. Some of our Masonic Brothers from Minnehaha Lodge #5 are covering some of the cost, but we could still use some help. The staff from Bishop Dudley will be distributing tickets, allowing us to keep a count of those we serve. After everyone is fed, and their first plate doesn't fill them up, they can come for seconds until we run out of food. It would be great to see people arrive at 2:30 for a tour of the facility, after which we will start serving those in need at 3:30. Please join us and help, or simply get to know those in our community a little better. Thank you 🙏🏼 If you want to give to this effort, please donate here:https://www.giveinkind.com/inkinds/L1Y4F4N |

| If you have ever been interested in what Solomon's Guard does, then here is your chance to find out by volunteering for the holidays where it all began. Our Brothers and friends in the Jewish community are requesting that 2-4 of our Brothers be at the Synagogue over the High Holy Days of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur (the holiest time on the Jewish calendar, which centers on atonement and repentance). As you may or may not know, around 350,000 Masons were killed in the death camps during WWII simply for being Masons. Performing this small act is a great way to show that we care about our Sioux Falls community and pay honor to those Brother Masons who lost their lives. This is an easy duty; all you do is show up, greet people as they come into the Synagogue, and then remain outside and make sure things stay quiet so those inside can worship in peace. It is also a good time to catch up with your Brothers. If there is a meal, you will likely be invited in to enjoy some fellowship. Bring a chair if you would like to make things more comfortable. If the weather is an issue, we are always invited to stand inside the door and keep watch from there. There are at least three Brothers from our Lodge and one from Trinity who attend services there, along with one person who has petitioned and one who will likely come back to our Lodge. Here are the shifts we need covered (please contact Brian Pulling barrister1965@gmail.com or Anthony Neuroth anthonyneuroth16@gmail.com with when you can help): Rosh Hashanah Monday, September 22 - 7pm to around 9pm Tuesday, September 23 - 9:30am to around Noon Bagels and Memories Service Sunday, September 28 - Noon to around 2pm Yom Kippur Wednesday, October 1 - 7pm to around 9pm Thursday, October 2 - 9:30am to around Noon Thursday, October 2 - 1:30pm to around 3:30pm Thursday, October 2 - 3:30pm to around 5:50pm Thursday, October 2 - 5:30pm to around 7:30pm Thank you Brothers!! |

Typically, two recommenders are needed for each petition, but in light of recent circumstances, we want as many recommenders for each name as possible to welcome these new Brothers and make them feel at home. To accomplish this the link below will take you to a Survey, or you can log into Grand View and take the Survey found on 'My Portal'. To Take the Survey:
Items of note. This is not a ballot or a way of voting on these petitioners yet. This is only to gather names as recommenders. This is the first list of names that we have gathered for now. Potentially there may be more in the future at which time there will be another Survey sent out. Thank You for participating and helping to welcome these Brothers. |

| Brothers, a Spring Cleaning effort is underway at the Masonic Center to clean excess items from our closets and storage areas. There is a dump trailer in the storage garage that will remain there until the week of May 12. There are also three bins for paper that needs to be shredded/recycled. Cardboard should be flattened and stacked in front of the trailer and will be taken by one of our Brothers. The idea is that the effort can be done over several weeks, it is for all groups in the building, and it doesn't take a massive scheduling effort as anyone can help as their schedule allows. The goal of the building is to get everything in a cabinet or behind a door to clean the clutter. We also don't just want to pack it in a cabinet to hide it but rather organize it for something we actually are going to need and use. Minnehaha has cleaned all of their items out of the old Secretaries' room, so we do not need to worry about that room. Our second cabinet would be a focus along with our safe. Perhaps former officers/treasurers/secretaries could chime in what would be best to keep in those two alone. Items such as old signup books may no longer serve a need for us to keep around? Perhaps someone would want to lead this effort? Beyond that if we have Brothers that have a general interest in making the building look good and have an understanding of where things should good feel free to help out. Most of those who are active know what belongs and what is no longer needed. Thank You for this effort. Stay tuned for the next phase in the Spring Cleaning and that is to actually do some cleaning! Each lodge/body will be asked to select a room or rooms to perform a deep clean on and make it look like new again! (or best they can) |

| Brothers, Good news! Progress is continuing on the installation of the keypad system for the Masonic Center. You can now use the keypad on the back/North door to gain access. For now, the push button handle remains in place, but you will only use the electronic keypad. The system is the same for the keypad on the front door where you will enter your Member ID# to gain access. Your Member ID# has been your number since becoming a Mason and it can be found in your Grand View profile. Type in your number and hit enter. You will only need to pull the door open. The existing handle will work to let you out as usual. Further developments will include optional keycards in the future. |

Final Days approaching to make this impact to our Scholarship fund! Please consider this opportunity We have received communication from one of our Brothers who recently read the minutes of our December Stated Meeting (12/5) in which the Secretary's Cashbook indicated an update of receipts for dues and donations received thus far. This Anonymous Brother (Secret Santa) told us that he was inspired by the generosity indicated thus far by the members of our Lodge through donations, he explained that he has seen growth in our lodge over the last couple of years, increased attendance the last couple of years, the many great things our lodge is doing in and outside of our meetings, and just the overall success we have been seeing. This Brother indicated that based on PM Woods' ask to support our Elmer C. Anderson Scholarship fund he would like to match dollar for dollar all donations given to the Elmer C. Anderson Scholarship fund through Jan 31 up to $3,000!!! This would be retroactive from the start of dues season so your contribution would be doubled! This Brother would like to remain Anonymous and simply feels the need to help his and our lodge continue its success. This is a tremendous offering and a great way to enhance our Scholarship fund to really give the committee something to work with. If you have already contributed, Thank You! If you would like to contribute additional, there are ways to do this either through Grand View or, of course, via check to our mailing address. In Grand View, you can go to My Profile > Below the tiles, there is your lodge name and the gray 'Actions' button. If you are in the process of sending your dues, the processes are the same (mailing address: 520 S 1st Ave Sioux Falls, SD 57104). We wish to Thank this Brother for his tremendous contribution to our lodge. It would be great if we could really make this contribution go further! |

Brothers of Minnehaha Lodge #5, The Elmer C. Anderson Scholarship is Minnehaha's oldest charitable fund. The family of Brother Anderson, Raised in Minnehaha Lodge #5 in 1911, left behind a portion of his life's work to fund an annual scholarship to provide for the future of our great country. While Masonic affiliation is not required for this scholarship, the children of Masons in Sioux Falls, Minnehaha Lodge in particular, have greatly benefited from this generous donation which survives him to this day. Brothers, the economic realities of today are unfortunately far different than they were when Brother Anderson passed. The fund is no longer self-sufficiently able to provide the gift of education to the leaders of tomorrow. As you prepare your dues payments for the 2025 Masonic year, I humbly ask that you take note of the line offering an opportunity to honor the memory and passion of our Brother Anderson to advance the education of our youth and to provide further opportunities to thrive for the future of America that is our children. Sincerely and Fraternally, Jon Woods, PM |

| Brothers, Last chance to RSVP for the meal before our stated meeting this Thursday. I will have the minutes uploaded to Grand View tomorrow morning. I hope to also have the committee reports as well. I have also been asked by a couple of Brother desirous of obtaining Ritual Monitors. That is great! Sounds like future Ritualists! If you would like one they are available for $10.65. I can have Glen set some out from the office for us and have them available Thursday night. At our meeting last month we talked about the Lodge Engagement Passports. These are similar to the Scottish Rite ones where you can mark your journey throughout the Minnehaha Masonic Year. They are produced by Printers Inc at a cost of $4.50. We have the Lodge Name Tags which were communicated previously. If you did not receive one previously or want a second one the cost of those are $7.50. All of these items please let me know at sec@minnehaha5.com. Thank You! Brothers, Please the find the original message below, drawing your attention to some important details. The Stated Meeting is set for October 3, our usual meeting night and time. The original email had an incorrect date and this original email context has been corrected. That was my fault as I was mixing up my different lodge meeting nights. The correct date is October 3. The By-Law proposals were submitted in due form at the September meeting and according to our by-laws they must be laid over until our next Stated Communication which is October 3. At that point a vote of the lodge will be conducted. The vote will require two-thirds of the members present for the proposal to pass. The Officers Elected to the lodge will be reviewing all processes and the voting procedures will be followed according to Minnehaha Lodge's By-Laws, and the Masonic Code (2024). Brothers, At a Regular Stated Communicated on September 5, 2024 two amendments to our current by-laws were presented. The first being a proposal from WM Carlos on a proposed dues structure for 2025 through 2030 as described in the attached proposal. Supporting this proposal there were previous video presentations sent out and available on your Grand View Feed for review. Please let sec@minnehaha5.com if you need assistance in locating those video presentations. The second proposal was to adopt a new Lodge Seal with the anticipation of a fresh copy of the By-Laws to be uploaded in the Lodge Documents on Grand View. | Brothers of Minnehaha Lodge, It was a special night at our last stated meeting. A project that has been in the works for some time and as the result of funds raised during our Lodge Refresh project the Lodge decided to purchase name tags for those members that have at least attended a meeting in the last two years and have been recorded in the log book as such. When this idea was proposed it was estimated that we would have an estimated 50 or so names on the list....ready for the final number? 72!! Nearly half of our membership has been engaged in a meeting or another member has vouched for that member and has said they will return soon. That is amazing! We did purchase them for all of our new affiliates and our new Brothers coming in as these Brothers are attending each meeting. We are excited to attend each meeting and we now want to seek out those who we may not have remembered their name :). Brothers who are reading this and did not receive a name tag it was not intended, it may have been an oversight and we do apologize. If you did not see your tag the other night, you do not see it below, or any other reason please contact sec@minnehaha5.com for questions. The name tags are $7.50 each but the lodge is also more than happy to cover the cost of them to help engage the membership of Minnehaha Lodge Brother Addison Stubbe's hidden talent is Tetris! He orientated the new name tag briefcase in such a way that it just fits in the space at the top of our locker just like it was meant to be! |

| Brothers, Please find correspondence below from the MBA on a Masonic Center Clean Event. We could use extra help for not just the building but we have an extra storage locker that could use some cleanup that hasn't been gone through in some time. Please RSVP to sec@minnehaha5.com if you can help on either or both days. Thank You. Subject: Upcoming Lodge Hall Clean-Out Event – September 20-21, 2024 Dear Members of the Masonic Family, I hope this message finds you well. We are organizing a comprehensive clean-out event for our lodge hall, scheduled for Friday, September 20th, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, and Saturday, September 21st, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. The primary objective is to declutter and thoroughly clean all areas of the hall. Key Points of the Event: Equipment and Storage: Kitchen equipment will be organized and stored properly. Items such as popcorn machines and slush makers should not be left on counters. Volunteer Requirements: Each body is expected to provide a minimum of five volunteers per day. Please submit your list of volunteers to the MBA email before the end of the weekend prior to the event. Secretary Office: Brother and Sister Secretaries will be responsible for tidying up the Secretary's Office. Any unneeded files should be discarded. Desk Relocation: By mid-October, desks and materials from the lower level will need to be moved to the Grand Lodge area, which will serve as the new conference and work room for the MBA and Bodies. Desks in this area should remain clear when not in use, and each body will be assigned a locker and drawers. This communal space must be maintained in a clean condition. Additional Tasks: Snack tables will be moved from the small eating area to the Shrine garage. Additionally, various items such as tables and file cabinets will be available for donation to the MBA. Attendance: All MBA board members are expected to attend both days and take leadership roles in the clean-up effort. Please ensure that your assigned volunteers are prepared to assist in achieving a more organized and professional environment for our lodge. Bodies that do not provide volunteers will have to accept the decisions made by the MBA and participating bodies regarding the clean-up process. Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to enhancing our lodge hall. Best regards, Brother Matt Gage MBA Secretary 2024-25 |

| Brothers, After having completed two online presentations that were previously communicated below you will find links to both presentations. The presentations are proposals for the structure of a proposed dues increase for Minnehaha Lodge and the value, structure, and breakdown for which the dues will be for. Please take the time to review the videos. Please be respectful of the presentation of the videos and the information contained within these presentations and for the lodge and members for which this information pertains and keep these presentations within our house. A formal proposal of a by-law change will be drafted for our next Stated Meeting in September but will leave room for input from the Craft for a final proposal to be submitted officially for due process before the conclusion at that meeting. Thank You Brothers! Presentation 1 < Click Here Presentation 2 < Click Here Brothers, as sent out in the communication last month with the minutes the MBA is increasing the per cap for each member of the MBA to cover the increasing costs of maintaining and sustaining the Masonic Center. WM Carlos would like to extend this presentation with two online presentations for everyone to review. These opportunities are below. |

Also the Grand Lodge has turned on the ability to text message our members meeting reminders. These messages are available to us at a cost of $0.04 per message. If this is your preferred method of communication that is great, we want to stay connected. We want to understand the impact of that and how much that will be each month moving forward. That doesn't sound like a lot and it probably won't be in the big picture but we need to be responsible. ADDITIONAL ONLINE PAYMENTS You may choose to make additional online payments through the same system that is used to make monthly online dues payments and for all dues payment processing. In your profile, you can choose to set up a credit card as your preferred method of payment. Once you have that set up you can make additional payments here: Do you have talents to share or want to contribute more to the lodge? Perhaps you feel called to join one of our Committees?! Many hands make light work and we are always looking to add to the teams. Social Committee Prospect Socials. This is new for us but we have seen a large uptick in the amount of inquiries coming in that we want to bring the guys through in groups to gauge their interest and potentially bring them in as members. We are looking for a larger group of existing Brothers as we want this group to turn into potential first line signers so we want a revolving door essentially of Brothers and not necessarily the same Brothers all of the same time. We'd like someone to track and care for our widows within our lodge, Mitch could use a couple of guys on the Foster Network team. If you see where you can help with any of the committees please email sec@minnehaha5.com |
